Re: Open-Top motoring....
I did my apprenticeship on them in a BL garage were we did Rover, Land Rover, Austin & Triumph and of course the BL models including the Sherpa vans, at the time I preferred the rubber bumper models but as I got on in age I came to like the chrome bumpers they were really hefty you know solid nothing like the thin chrome you get now and even plastic chrome, easy to work on as well.
Hoods caused a bit of an issue with some folk as the press studs would break nails as you tired to fasten the roof back on the original roofs were really quite tight to get on. Midgets were quite interesting for a little car as they had quite a long tunnel for your legs and at 6 foot I fitted in them not to badly although a complete pig to get out of and generally meant you ended up on the floor as you wiggled out of it, not an ideal exit of a vehicle.
The TR7 amazed us when it arrived as it was such a radical shape with pop up lights it was mainly European and American cars had those, and here we had this little TR7 with its sleek wedge shape, and were are the headlamps? OH WOW! When you look at the TR6 compared to the 7 you can see how radical that shape was, people of the time either loved it or hated it with a vengeance.
These days your roof is off in less than 20 seconds at the press of a button the car does EVERYTHING else for you, never understand people with modern convertibles which I pass often in the summer sun roof still firmly affixed, I hear my self shouting to myself "get it off" as I pass.

Re: Open-Top motoring....
A recent series of random links arising out of a Gibbo holiday snap at Singapore Airport has led to this vehicle's moment in the spotlight. It is a recreation of one Norway's finest 1950's cars, the Troll, of which only 6 were produced, from the original moulds and hence this one is named Troll 7.

Personally I think it'll be tough to live without this when you open the door:

Re: Open-Top motoring....
Well here she is finally with her new shoes on. I would of took one with the lid off but the boot and back seat is full of old rims.
Standard 18 x 18 fitment but boy they are getting hard to find on 4 x 108 PCD and choice of wheel is shocking unless you want to pay over a grand, yet when she had her 307 that fitment was in abundance, now it all 5 stud fitment, these AVA's were £730 yet I have a similar pattern wheel on Romac that came in at £550 simply because my Megane wheels are 5 stud, odd PCD mind you @ 5 x 114.3 but still pages of wheels under £800 and same size @ 18 x 8.
The 4 stud configuration never entered our head as being an issue when we bought the 308, we even looked at a 13 plate with 5 studs, Roland Garros but she said no as it was white and I have a white Megane CC, so she wanted a different colour.
But it is done now however I don't think the 308 is too impressed with it's new shoes as er in doors has reported this morning when getting out of it at work the driver door is making a very loud cracking sound when it opens, it was fine yesterday I was in it getting wheels fitted, fine this morning leaving for work, not anymore!
Hunt the check strap time I feel.
