When I was underneath the car doing the engine mounts, I noticed that the bottom of the auto box was covered in oil. I determined that it was engine oil and with a torch I could see some fitting that is basically under the air filter box. It has some sort of grey connector on it.
Does anyone know what this is as I suspect I may need to order a new one.
I'd be out there stripping it down if it wasn't raining cats and dogs and I need the car for hospital appointments during the week.
Many thanks!

Probably best if you upload a picture to be honest, as it's not going to be easy without it. Use the full-editor & preview button, then the attachments tab to upload your images.

It's hard to see because it's hidden by what I assume is the air filter trunking - but it's located above that connector that you can see and it leaks oil onto that connector and down onto the autobox.
Does that help at all?
Many thanks!

That's really hard to make out from the small picture and angle, sorry, but possibly the turbo side air union.

OK, thanks - I'll have to wait until the weather improves and take the air filter trunking off. It's been seeping oil for a while and nothing has failed yet so probably ok for another week.

Can anyone identify this culprit - I think it might have to be a garage job as access is really difficult

Re: Something leaking oil - C5 X7
Thanks Steve
I am a bit tied up at the moment as I have daily radiotherapy sessions (Prostate cancer) so need the car daily - but when it's over I'll be sure to get in touch and maybe get this one sorted - fortunately it isn't leaking enough to leave drips on the ground - just need to work out what the heck it is LOL so if necessary I can order a part. I'm trying to dig into my Citroen doc software but it runs on a virtual XP system and isn't playing ball at the moment

Re: Something leaking oil - C5 X7
So finally managed to get the Citroen docs to run and I think it's the High Pressure Fuel Pump that has a leak as the grey connector is exactly the same as that fitted to the fuel filter so I assume that this is the low pressure feed. I had 'assumed' that it was engine oil that was leaking but pretty sure that the fuel pump doesn't use any so it must be a very slight diesel fuel leak on the low pressure side. The connector that you can just about see covered in the muck is the fuel temperature sensor.
Fortunately, if needed, it's costed as 1.5 hours to replace

Which engine is this ? Some 2.0 HDi engines did leak oil via high pressure fuel pump in to the environment.

It's a 2009 2.0 HDi 138 FAPkantica wrote: 20 Jun 2024, 08:04 Which engine is this ? Some 2.0 HDi engines did leak oil via high pressure fuel pump in to the environment.
I was convinced it was oil at first but is there somewhere oil can leak from the pump? Maybe it's from the gasket where it mates to the engine perhaps?

Re: Something leaking oil - C5 X7
I have 2.0 163 FAP and had similar oil leak. I am not 100% sure from your pictures, but my pump had bad input shaft seal and leaked oil from engine head. The gasket between the pump and engine head is usually not the problem.
Take a look at number 15 on the picture from https://www.viscodiesel.com/en/7135-528 ... ail-dfp3.4

Thanks!
That's interesting as it might therefore be a pump repair possibility rather than buying a new one. I need to take a look at what is involved in removing it - if Citroen reckon it's 1.5 hours to remove and replace then how difficult could it be
