Hi!
I've searching the web for the past few days trying to find if a retrofit of front parking sensors can be easily done or if it's more trouble than it's worth. It seems that for some other Citroen cars it's an easy job while for others it's almost impossible, yet nothing conclusive for the c4 Picasso.
My car is a C4 Picasso 2011 with rear parking sensors installed from factory with VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] .
Thanks for reading!

Re: C4 Picasso Front parking sensor retrofit
Requires the sensors, modified bumper, and a different Parking assistance ECU (and depending on build date), programming etc., and bear in mind there are 2 different front sensor types, both which are required for the front operation, and potentially the wiring to the rear of the vehicle of the front sensor loom if not there.

Re: C4 Picasso Front parking sensor retrofit
That was all expected, thanks for the confirmation!
In particular what is that about parking assistance ECU build date? And also have this components changed from the pre-facelift to the facelift (well besides the bumper which is obvious) or can any old parts still be used?

No, the ECUs are different based on vehicle build dates of the first gen and for rear only and front / rear system. We are not even talking about the later B78 Picasso.

Re: C4 Picasso Front parking sensor retrofit
When I say facelift I don't mean gen 2 which looks like a different car, I mean the pre and post DLR becoming standard which externally only changes the front bumper appearance.
Is there any way to tell which build date ecu I'd need?

Yes, but you'll need to upgrade your membership for that - please see below:
We can help if you need an original genuine part number, part diagram or factory build sheet and can't already find the info you need on the Forum. For this service, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future part number requests for up to 2 years, so excellent value.
If interested, links are below, then provide your vehicle's VIN in full, which will be masked automatically when you submit your post.

Re: C4 Picasso Front parking sensor retrofit
Ok, so thanks for your Forum donation.
So your build date is 12785 (10 November 2011). If your car were originally to have had Front and rear parking assistance, then it would have been fitted with this unit:
(1) Parking Assistance ECU, part: 1606373980 (no longer available from Citroen), £557.12
(5) Sensor, part: 6590A5, £155.70
(6)Sensor, part: 1611735580, £169.51

Re: C4 Picasso Front parking sensor retrofit
Aright thanks!
Three more questions on the topic:
1. Is there any chance for the wiring harness to wire the front sensors back to the parking assistance ecu to be in place or do I have to get creative with this?
2. Where exactly is the parking assistance ecu located? I think I've read something about it being in the trunk somewhere?
3. Since there are 2 types of sensors in the front how to tell which types goes where?

Re: C4 Picasso Front parking sensor retrofit
1) You won't have the correct harness.
Your harness is listed as 6599YZ for vehicles with or without rear parking sensors for your build date.
The version for vehicles with front and rear parking is 660165, £162.73
2) The ECU is located in the rear left side of the boot panel.
3) The odd sensors (6) on my previous diagram, I believe are the outer front sensors used for parking gap space measurement and that's another thing you won't have on the dash - the control for activating this.

Re: C4 Picasso Front parking sensor retrofit
Looks as if all the new parts are needed they will cost around £1300 and then maybe a diagnostic to get them working and labour cost if you are not fitting it yourself. You could consider an aftermarket kit for a fraction of this but it will not be integrated with the existing display or even change the car for one with front sensors. Most people might not bother though.

Re: C4 Picasso Front parking sensor retrofit
Well the plan is to try to cross reference the Citroen part numbers to the manufacturer ones and get them from the 2nd hand market/scrapyards and do all the labour and coding myself.PaulC5 wrote: 20 Jun 2024, 13:29 Looks as if all the new parts are needed they will cost around £1300 and then maybe a diagnostic to get them working and labour cost if you are not fitting it yourself.
