Peugeot 508 MCP oil change

Unread post by trollkarlen »

I know that the oils in this gearboxes should last a lifetime.
But I think my car i almost on its second life time 😁

It has traveled 380000km now and lately i sounds like the gears mostly from neutral to first gear clonks a little louder. And the oil and job is not such a stretch either.

Is this a waste of time or should i do it ?
I guessed that the oil is Total gear 8 75W80 is that right ?

From my own experience I would say change it. I had a CX25DTR turbo many years ago I checked the oil several times in the first couple of years and it was always clean and full so I ignored it for the next 100,000 miles or so, I eventually had the synchro on 5th gear fail, when I came to look it the oil was black but it was all still there.

The car had done well over 200k miles by this time, I managed to repair fifth without removing the gearbox as it was located in the extension, but it taught me a valuable lesson.

Anyone else with a 508 1.6 hdi MCP gearbox that have gone this far?
And what usually breaks on these cars ?

Is the oil level supposed to be above the drive shafts?
I want to know if I can remove the drive shafts without changing oil?

You are going to lose some oil for this operation, so you'll either have to measure and replace the exact amount that comes out (difficult to do) or just drain the manual gearbox, do the job and then replace the gearbox oil with some nice fresh stuff.

If you need help with the correct amounts, pop your VIN up so I can get the correct info as these differ considerable depending on the type of gearbox. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Adding some info for other people.
This is the MCP 6 speed piloted manual gearbox.

Drain plug torq: 40nm

Drainplug needs a 8mm square socket, i created my own from a m10 hex screw with an angel grinder. And you fill from the air vent ontop of the gearbox under the air intake tube.
