C5 Aircross PureTech 180 S&S Shine EAT8 - Belt issue still a thing?
I am interested in buying my next C5. I found a really good deal on a C5 Aircross from late 2019 with PureTech 180 S&S Shine EAT8.
Does this particular engine still have the issue with the timing belt? The one where it runs in the oil and start to dissolve and needs to be replaced every 6 years?
Any other issues to look out for?
Thanks!

Personally I wouldn't have the 1.2 puretech for free!
I have a friend with one, it is on it's 3rd belt and drinks more oil than fuel. There is also plenty of info on web regarding a Class action against manufacturers
Just my opinion, others may have a more favourable one

Well, this would be the 1.6 4 cylinder PureTech. No idea if what makes a difference?Steve Walsh wrote: 04 Apr 2024, 10:00 Personally I wouldn't have the 1.2 puretech for free!

I would be happy about any additional info you can provider
Also, does anyone have the service intervals (and what is included) for the puretech 180 C5 Aircross?

Re: C5 Aircross PureTech 180 S&S Shine EAT8 - Belt issue still a thing?
So this engine has a timing CHAIN, not a belt, so nothing to worry about and doesn't need to be changed under normal circumstances.
General vehicle servicing is every year or 30k KM, whichever is reached first.

General vehicle service included oil, oil filter?
Any info on spark plugs or other components changing interval?

Happy to help with further info, but we are charged for this, but if you want to consider upgrading your membership, we also offer an official parts and parts diagram request service for donating members - see below
:
We can help if you need an original genuine part number, part diagram or factory build sheet and can't already find the info you need on the Forum. For this service, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future part number requests for up to 2 years, so excellent value.
If interested, links are below, then provide your vehicle's VIN in full, which will be masked automatically when you submit your post.

That is presumably the Prince Engine...frying pan and fire spring to mind!

It doesn't have a great reputation - timing chain problems, fouling the inlet valves, general crapness of various parts of the engine.

Interesting because I couldn't really find anything negative online regarding the PureTech 180.RichardW wrote: 25 Jun 2024, 12:35 It doesn't have a great reputation - timing chain problems, fouling the inlet valves, general crapness of various parts of the engine.
Quite the opposite, people have praised it as a very reliable (and currently the most reliable) PSA engine.

Re: C5 Aircross PureTech 180 S&S Shine EAT8 - Belt issue still a thing?
It seems to be based on the 'old' 1.6 THP engine, do a search on Prince engine in the MINI. Not to say they haven't fixed some or all of the issues...

Re: C5 Aircross PureTech 180 S&S Shine EAT8 - Belt issue still a thing?
I believe the issues frequently reported relate to the pre 2016 engine also known as the THP engine, the current 1.6 Puretech is mentioned on a several sites as seemingly trouble free with all past issues resolved. It’s certainly difficult to find anyone reporting any faults. I have a 2022 C5 X Puretech petrol 180 bhp (only 60 petrol only versions sold in the UK apparently) and covered 35,000 miles in 18 months with zero issues. MPG wise I manage 45-51mpg.
The same engine is used in higher volumes with 1.6 hybrid across many Stellantis brands and I’ve yet to find any owners reporting any engine issues.
Just my opinion but it’s an excellent engine. I also change the oil and filter between services to so every 10k, standard service intervals are 20k.
