Hi Walter.

Yes, this is because of the camshaft timing chain mentioned in the article and affects the 1.5 Blue HDi engines. My official servicing schedule recommends the 5W30 oil and I suggest you do the same as it will offer more protection in the cold especially for this issue.

I have also checked your servicing schedule and it too states the same 5W30 oil as for my vehicle.

The article says it affects 1.5 hdi engines from December 2019, does this mean our 308 1.5 hdi registered May 2019 is not affected ? The service info provided when the car was new says to use 0W20 or 0W30 oil to the right spec and the dealer has been using 0W30 according to the receipts. I had been thinking of doing my own servicing now it is out of any warranties but may stick with the Peugeot dealer if there is a chance of the engine being damaged.

Ok, so your official servicing schedule has changed the oil in line with what I said above.

All vehicle are affected it seems from the article:
New after-sales recommendation
If the Stellantis group made modifications to the engine at the beginning of 2023, no technical measures have been taken for vehicles already in circulation. In order to avoid premature wear and the risk of chain breakage, manufacturers have recommended since January 2024 the use of a 5W30 oil (instead of 0W30) in order to solve the cold lubrication problem. All vehicles produced before February 2023 are affected.
Here is your service schedule that shows this change Paul (I've blanked out your VIN):

Response below from total oils

Thank you for your query. As of January 2024, the new product Quartz Ineo RCP 5W-30 was introduced and is recommended for 1.5L Diesel Blue HDi engines on vehicles manufactured between 2017 to 2023. This product holds a new crankcase oil specification (FPW 9.55535-03) and was developed and approved for such models to provide robust protection of the camshaft chain (RCP = Robust chain protection).

For engines manufactured at the end half of 2023, Quartz Ineo Xtra First 0W-20 engine oil is suitable. However, as your vehicle is 2019, the Quarts Ineo RCP 5W-30 product is recommended, which will provide better protection of the camshaft chain.

I hope this clarifies things for you, if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Rather than looking for C2 or C3 oil, it needs to satisfy the PSA oil spec which possibly might be B712290 according to this out of date topic if you look for your engine. However, you might want to check at a dealer for the latest spec in case it has changed. viewtopic.php?t=75918

It's more important that the oil should meet the relevant PSA specification which I would imagine for you is B71 2290. This mandates, amongst other things, that the oil has to be 5W30 viscosity. As I understand it, such an oil might be either C2 or C3. Your service record booklet should be able to confirm this.
