No, sadly not. Never been lucky in the ballot... I've done the London Big Half and that was good, the atmosphere was magical...

Nowadays I don't even try for the London Marathon as the logistics of getting there and home again is way beyond my abilities...

Likewise I never intended to ride the London to Brighton Bike Ride but the difficult logistics are all being looked after for me this year by very good friends who want me to ride with them :D

Today is a very special day and here's a picture to celebrate it :D

Today would have been dad's 100th birthday and this photo is of him in action on his trials bike whilst serving in the Royal Army Service Core in Lubeck, Germany in 1946. He had been in Germany for some time by then as he was there whilst war was still raging.

This photo was taken in February of that year so he would have been 22. It can be seen where my love of mud and racing on two wheels comes from :D

A bit more about dad here: viewtopic.php?t=56715

Hi Neil

What's caused the small mullock heaps in the foreground of the first photo? Vere small miners (minors?)? They don't look right for cow pats...

Indeed they are molehills, and with Alec being in Australia, and in a coincidence almost making the "Familiarity Phenomenon, and unlikely coincidences" thread - only last night on UK Telly, there was a set of bonus questions on University Challenge thus:
Marsupial Mammals
The order Diprotodontia includes kangaroos wallabies koalas and which other animal whose species include Common as well as both Northern and Southern hairy nosed varieties :?:
The family Notoryctidae includes 2 extant species that are commonly referred to as the marsupial equivalent of what other animal :?: In part this is because they lack functioning eyes and external ears
The family Dasyuromorphia encompases almost all carnivorous marsupials inckuding quolls numbats and what other species :?:
and the coincidence is manifested with this pictorial hint of the answer to the second question

SWMBO buys it from time to time and reads the online version every day. She occasionally points things out to me but I hear more about it on the radio!! :-D
