Early C8 wiper blades
Happy New Year too all.
Buying wiper blades for my '54 C8, I've just realised that they are really niche - they fit the first few years of 2nd-gen Eurovans and nothing else. I'm wondering how long before Bosch stop making them... Before I panic-buy 10 pairs, does anyone know how feasible it would be to fit later-model wiper arms to my C8? I bit of a long-shot, but maybe someone's made the conversion - or has an early and late C8 and can compare?
I suspect the issue is that mine have built-in spray jets on the blades - maybe later C8s have something different?

Re: Early C8 wiper blades
Spray jets on the blades? Not heard of that, please give us more details my fellow C8 friend. I've personally never heard of wiper blades that shoot screen wash through them. As for wiper blade size not being in stock I very much doubt it, they can't design a car without using 100 parts from another car, everything is mass produced.

Re: Early C8 wiper blades
My Vauxhall Combo has a similar screen wash setup to the BX.

Never noticed that on mine James, perhaps an earlier model.

My company Combo is the current model, when Vauxhall joined the Stellantis garage.

Re: Early C8 wiper blades
There are little plastic nozzles clipped onto the blades - I think I actually moved them from the old blade to the new ones last time, but I don't want to rely on that in case they break or the blade design changes and they stop fitting.Rp0thejester wrote: 12 Jan 2024, 21:27 Spray jets on the blades? It's reassuring that other cars use this, since that means they will probably keep making the plastic part. I suspect it's just that the early C8s (and related) are they only ones with this on a pair of 26" blades.

Re: Early C8 wiper blades
The Combo washer system is not on the blades themselves, but running up the wiper arms (which is how I remember it for my 1990 BX).

Re: Early C8 wiper blades
Ah, so perhaps it is something semi-unique to the early 2nd gen Eurobuses. My CX also had a pipe mounted on the arm - which worked really well.

Re: Early C8 wiper blades
It just sounds a really bad idea for it come out of the wipers. On Transit vans they are fitted on the bonnet and freeze up often, my C8 has the jets behind the bonnet in the grille and they still freeze shut. I'd imagine that would be the case on wiper jets in cold weather and at motorway speeds

Re: Early C8 wiper blades
Strangely, I've never really noticed them freezing. That used to happen all the time on my XM, but perhaps the fact that the jets shoot water downwards (blade to screen) rather than upwards (bonnet to screen) helps with that. I suspect it isn't the screenwash that freezes - it's rainwater sitting on the jet.
