The Remember these thread is having a dalliance into such things here

Spoiler: show
Subbuteo is a tabletop football game in which players simulate association football by flicking miniature players with their fingers. The name is derived from the Neo-Latin scientific name Falco subbuteo (a bird of prey commonly known as the Eurasian hobby), after a trademark was not granted to its creator Peter Adolph (1916–1994) to call the game "Hobby".

Oh, really?
Did you already know about that connection, Neil? If so, how?

I am curious about where the names come from Mac. Subbuteo is well-known name, but quite a random name with no obvious connection to a person or the game itself so I just looked it up on wiki today :-D

POTD Paper Aeroplane Club

This is not just a simple 10 folds of a piece of A4 printer paper, it is a design called Suzanne by John Collins which was the one-time holder of the world record flight distance of a paper aeroplane.

The Trivia investigation thread has the really easy instructions to make it.

viewtopic.php?p=780131#p780131

Critical to the optimum flying is what John Collins describes at the dihedral angle of the wings. The angle they stick up at.

Another aeroplane, appropriate for page 747 of POTD submissions.
Not guaranteeing that it is Boeing 747, but I reckon its heading for somewhere in North America.

Curiosity revealed this the Boeing 747 went NFP in December 2022...hands up if you knew that already :-D
The last aircraft, a 747-8F for Atlas Air registered N863GT, rolled off the production line on December 6, 2022, and was delivered on January 31, 2023. Boeing hosted an event at the Everett factory for thousands of workers as well as industry executives to commemorate the delivery.

Tenerife 1977 two 747s one crash 580 dead. I landed at that airport just three days later, the Spanish newspapers had some pretty gruesome pictures.

A while back I went past the big aeroplane scrapyard near Kemble... Lots of 747s there...

Quite a sight...

I've not flown since 2001 and have absolutely no intention of doing so ever again.

Bringing together the page 747 and Jim's drive by Kemble here is one of the pictures from the September Stroll when we did the same and a video of when Bob and I visited there the year after!! :-D

Bringing a bit of brightness and joy into an otherwise dull and damp day by means of a large paintbrush :-D

It looks bloody awesome. The photo does not do it justice...

An ideal time for me to paint as I currently have absolutely no sense of smell. Not a trace

I realised that when working on Bluebell's fuel system and could not smell any petrol.

It's an artifact of the recent dose of the lurgy I've had... I didn't realise for days I'd lost my sense of smell...

My sense of taste is not very good either... And that's not a cue to launch wise-cracks about my choice of colour for my hall, stairs and landing

Seriously, the only taste I can sense at the moment is salt.

The quirkily-titled "One For The Train Buffs" thread, may appear at face value to be the preserve only of the eponymous "Train Buff". Not so.

Here is a fine piece of artwork, recently posted by Steve, an Iconic photo by any definition, and yes there is a story behind it, although at the time of posting Steve had no idea of the place/time or the story.

A small dalliance over to the "One for the Train Buffs thread today, will reveal all, including an Oscar winning movie directed by Martin Scorsese and a moving picture recreation, showing the immense amount of work required for a few minutes of screen time to reproduce the drama of that exact event.
Todays toast... "One for the Train Buffs!" :-D
