C5 (X7) 3.0HDI - suspension pump brushes and height sensors

I'm just back from offshore, and the Citroen is lying "slammed" down at the workshop looking like something out of 'Stanced Nation'. It's not a break of containment in the hydraulics, as it still has all its LDS. However, this evening, I'm Grumpy AF, so I'm not in the mood to do any more forum archaeology looking for old but pertinent threads. I've tried. But with the mood I'm in, any more unsuccessful searches will likely see me smash everything silicon and network-related in a 1km radius.

So, the plan is that I'm going to malky the Citroen with new height sensors, their poxy little drop links, and new brushes on the HP pump motor.

The reason I'm posting a thread about this is that I'm looking for a bit of help on where to obtain the aforementioned parts? So any parts numbers, prices, and links you can provide me with for motor brushes, sensors and the associated linkages will all be greatly appreciated; not just by me but by everyone within a 1km radius of me who doesn't want a belligerent bearded berserker bawbag reducing their level of available information technology to something approximating that of a precolumbus Inca village.

How long have you been away? Normally suspension height is usually maintained.
1) Are there any suspension messages when the engine is started or warnings?
2) Is the battery in a good state of charge?
3) I can't see the height sensors being the cause at this stage,
4) It is possible that either the front and / or the rear stiffness regulators have a leak, which can result in the hydraulic fluid returning to the reservoir.

I won't put all the stiffness regulator check stuff up yet in case you resolve the issue, but let me know if this is something you want after checking the other things.

Thanks Marc, The part numbers are exactly what I needed for the height sensors, need to the Citroen is my wife's daily driver, so it has not been stood, or sinking, for weeks, it was in daily use, even while I was away. I'm guessing the fault lies with the suspension pump brushes --> fuse, I'm wondering if anyone knows of suitable replacement brushes for the motor? I'm thinking if I get as far as stripping the pump, I might as well renew the brushes while I'm in there.

Can't help you with that, as most people I know who have disassembled have just cleaned out the carbon paste and gunk, then cleaned up the brushes (which still had plenty of wear). Citroen don't of course sell any of these parts, but I'm sure if they were that bad you could try and ID them.

On the two pump motors I have opened to clean I have found the four brushes (per motor) had plenty of length left on them.

Jay, not sure which fuses on the 3.0 but... there's one in the glovebox for the pump electronics (G39 on a C6), this should be noted in your owners manual. The main pump feed is one of the main fuses under the BSM in the engine bay (IIRC on a C6 it's No.1). Easy enough to check them once in there.

Question; is it slammed front and back?
If so, as containment is in tact and assuming there is only one fault, there can be only one possible cause! The pump valve block has somehow been set to open the return valves. If slammed at one end it's more likely to be a struck stiffness regulator valve.

Jay, G39 in the glovebox (probably in the secondary fuse strip above the main fuses) without the component ID's, it looks like this supplies the stiffness regulator controls. MF2 under the engine bay BSM provides power to the BHI electronics and MF4 the pump motor via a relay that's probably mounted on top of the chassis rail on the drivers side of the rad/cooling pack.

It will be somewhat different because the C6 3.0 will have AMVAR active damping whereas the X7 never did, although the X7 still utilises the second suspension ECU for other functions along with the ECU in the BHI.

So there will be some electrical functions missing from this diagram that are on the C6 where the suspension is concerned.

Still, it doesn't explain how it was slammed unless the boss selected down on the suspension switch?

I think your best option is a good used one in the UK and swap the electronics over (the motor and valve blocks are mostly the same) or import a brush set from Turkey.
I have a new spare but you ain't getting that
I might have a half decent spare in the garage (let me check on Wednesday) and a known good one on a spares car as an absolute last resort (as I'd like to keep it inflated for now).

The new OEM ones that are pre-configured are no longer available, but at least you have the part numbers for second hand ones - but bear in mind, depending which vehicle they are off, may also need configuring.

Thanks Marc, those numbers could be invaluable looking for marts in future, but I'm wondering what's involved in "configuring" these new / refurbished BHI's? Mike, those brushes could be a godsend, and I'll pay a more than fair price for them, maybe PM me about this if you don't want to discuss money in the forum?
