3008 door mirror

Unread post by RichardW »

My car has developed a bit of a whistle from the passenger side (outside, not in the seat  ), had a look today, and part of the mirror housing has come away. You can just see the gap at the end of my finger.

Wonder how much of the mirror I have to dismantle to get that back in

If you can remove the glass first, then you should be able to see the shell clips from the inside Richard:

Looks like it might not be too hard, the part which is displaced is the rear 'body' which in this vid comes off fairly simply after removing the glass and 4 screws....

Fixed it - no parts, or even tools, required! Whilst outwardly similar to the mirror in that vid construction is different, there are no internal screws. A bit of a wiggle and the rear part of the cover came loose enough to re-engage the clip at front corner and snap it back together. Will see later if it fixed the noise. Emboldened I then took the glass out the drivers door - the heater has never worked. Sadly it was not disconnected, and the heater is not open circuit, connections a bit loose so I squeezed them up, but I doubt that's it, so (probably) haven't fixed that...

Ha! Fixed the heated mirror :-D

Just popped the mirror out to see if you can get at the puddle lamp, which has also never worked. Indeed you can, just enough room to pop it out the mirror. With it out, bulb is OK, but it occured to me that the wires to the bulb looked much thicker than those to mirror, and colours were different to the other side. Has some one been here before....??? So

And we get

:rofl2: :rofl2:

Wires swapped and heated mirror and puddle light both restored :-D

When the car is doing a dpf regen, it might put on the heated mirrors and other things to increase the engine load. Before you swapped the wires back, did you ever notice if the puddle light came on whilst driving ?

The rear 'external Lateral Lights' as they are referred to are on a separate circuit to the heated mirror control.

3018B : control of the exterior lateral lights where I've marked in yellow.
8112 : control of the protected heated mirror where I've marked in red.

Exactly, which is why the light is on when the HRW is on when the wires are connected up wrong!
