It is indeed. Very much underused although I did have Mike Oldfield's "Pictures Of Distant Earth"* on yesterday.

I had an old, second hand Marantz receiver that replaced the B&O that I buggered, and a pair of ancient Dynatron speakers bought for four quid in a fleamarket.
Surprisingly good sound for £44 and one particular track has the sound of rocket engines in it that were thunderous but very detailed. All the more expensive equipment fails to achieve the same sound quality.
As with the CD63/Sonab R4000 and the Sonab OA5 orthoacoustic speakers.

And I am wondering if perhaps it was the combination of LP & the Sonab 75S turntable.
Further investigation required. Where is that LP?

I don't like drums for the most but Oldfield's use of drums/percussion always feels 'right'. Like on the beginning of the next track "Ascension".

I must re-listen to my Oldfield albums.... along with an awful lot of others I've not listened to in too long.

I have a K-I Sig CD63MkII sitting on the table downstairs whilst I ponder what to do with it. It was a faithful bit of kit since I bought it from new but was replaced with a much newer Marantz about a year ago. I guess it can join my 'spare' Arcam amp in the loft. And the Aura amp. And the Magnum amp. And the Cambridge Audio amp. And the Kenwood tape deck. And the two DACs. You never know, they might come in useful one day

Yes, uplifting and inspirational covers it fairly well, also 'anthemic' in places.

I suspect, in fact am almost certain that the R4000 amp was built by Cambridge. The turntable was made for Sonab by Yamaha.

Oldfield is our painting music, Roxy Music too.
Fitting as I am painting the vintage chair ready for Lily. Her mother's birthday tomorrow but they are all at work.

I find it's equal parts quality of the kit, and equal parts pot-luck if you stumble upon a sound that suits your ear. I tried many different interconnect cables and none seemed to make much difference, but a pair of asymmetric ones did it for me. Same with speaker cables. I'd had an ongoing issue with sibilance on one particular section on one particular track on a vinyl album - I chased various styli until eventually an Audio-Technica stylus worked for me.
As with everything audio and Hi-fi though - to each his own.

Indeed.
I knew nothing of balanced output/inputs until I bought my Electrocompaniet pre/power kit, had them connected with RCA interconnects and wondered what the XLR sockets were for.
While in Lintone Audio, now sadly gone, I mentioned them to Tony and he had some there, said I could borrow and try them. The cheapest were £180. Bought some Chinese ones from eBay for £13 and they were the most amazing upgrade ever.

Indeed bobins I have to agree there, my pet hate is distortion and as long as the sound is distortion free then I only have three settings to consider - soft, medium and loud!! Yes I know I'm a pleb but as you say to each his own!!
