C5 Aircon flap motor
Hi, I know this has been covered before.
I've searched through the archives this morning for my problem, which is the heater blowing cold on the RH and hot on the LH side.
The solution would appear to be an aircon flap motor with a longer spline ( part no' 6447 TK ) I believe.
The problem is, no one seems to have one, I keep getting " out of stock ".
Anybody know of anywhere currently stocking them please ?
Failing that, is there a work around until I can find one ? Can I shut the LH side off somehow ?
Thanks.

Re: C5 Aircon flap motor
I think you've pretty much had it as Valeo no longer make them, so therefore aftermarket suppliers are no going to be able to supply you unless you can find one that still has stock.
There's no way to disable the left side as the whole issue is the control rod or gearing has snapped / worn on that side so it is stuck on the last position it was before it broke.

Re: C5 Aircon flap motor
Bugger!
The car's not at all comfortable to use as it is.
At the moment I've got everything turned off and recirculating air pressed to keep it from feeding hot air through as we drive. But opening windows to regulate temperature is far from ideal, especially yesterday doing 200 miles down the autoroute in a thunderstorm!
I called at our local Citroen dealer today and he confirmed that Citroen France don't have one.
So it looks like 2nd hand is the only option, I guess there'll be C5s in breakers that have the longer one fitted, but how to find one? This may take a while.
I don't suppose some enterprising sole has come up with a repair kit?
I've had this car 12 years, it's easily got another 12 left in it, I'm going to be mighty peed off if this is the end for the sake of a bit of plastic.
I guess tomorrow I'll be pulling it out the car to see what's actually not working, in the unlikely event that I come up with a bodge, I'll report back.

Re: C5 Aircon flap motor
Quick update.
I had a look at the heater motors this morning, and someone has clearly been behind the glovebox before me.
The wiring for the top motor was just about connected, as soon as I pushed the loom aside to get to the bolts on the lower one, the wiring to the top one dropped. The connector isn't actually connected, if you see what I mean. When I took it off I could also see that strands of the copper windings were hanging out, not good obviously.
So a plan has hatched.
I've swapped bottom motor to the top position, as it appears to be in good condition I'm assuming that the wear is in the heater end.
The plan now is to buy a replacement for the original lower motor, and use the shaft from the old one to extend it, hopefully to reach the undamaged part of the heater mechanism. Not entirely sure how yet, probably with an internal shaft, which begs the question;- Does the shaft need to be hollow at the end? i.e. does the inside engage with anything or can I run a shaft all the way up inside it?
2nd question which hopefully someone can answer;- I can find 2nd hand motors of the original design, but would prefer to use a new one. The only new ones I can find claim to fit a 2002 C5 but the body is a different shape, does this matter? Are they interchangeable? - https://eurofrance24.fr/l-ment-d-ajusta ... 447rf.html

Re: C5 Aircon flap motor
No that one you linked to is for the facelifted MK II which has a completely different heating system and different reduction motor units.
You need this one:

Re: C5 Aircon flap motor
Cheers Marc,
I've seen a few that look like that during my searches, but if that's a pic of the actual motor it looks nothing like the one I took off.
Found this one 2nd hand with a European ebay search (sadly Brexit has killed online trade from UK for me here in France, the import duties are bad enough, but then the carriers charge at least as much again for handling the admin, it can easily double the price of some items.). Having said that, the Mrs is in UK at the mo, so if I can find one this week she can bring it back with her.
I'd prefer new really, but this will give me something to experiment with.

I suspect somebody has been there and attempted to fit the incorrect one before.....

Re: C5 Aircon flap motor
Actually - hold that - I think we are getting a bit confused...
There are 2 types of motors - both called air conditioning reduction motors, but there are different versions of them to do different jobs. Some are air mixing motors and others are the air distribution motors. So it depends on which one you are referring to. These motors have different parts and have also been superseded with a later part depending on your build date.
I can help you with official part diagram and part numbers, but it does require a membership upgrade from you as we are charged - see standard notice below if interested:
If you need an original, genuine part number or part diagram, and can't already find the info you need on the Forum, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future part number requests for up to 2 years, so excellent value.
If interested, links are below, then pop your VIN up.

Re: C5 Aircon flap motor
There's two on the LH side of my heater, both the same as the one in my last pic.
Having owned several LDV mini-buses in a previous life, I'm a great believer in checking what's actually fitted before ordering parts.

Re: C5 Aircon flap motor
Just in case anybody else is daft enough to still be running a 20 odd year old C5, here's my take on obtaining the unobtainable motor with the extended drive.
As I said earlier, when I looked at my heater the top motor had the wiring connector hanging off, I've ordered a 2nd hand one from ebay to replace that.
But it's the lower motor that needs the extension ;-
So I cut the drive off the defunct motor, carefully ground down an old electric screwdriver bit till it was a nice snug fit, cut it to length and pushed it into my existing motor's drive shaft.
Eh voila, a flap motor with an extended drive shaft.
I've used a glue between the surfaces (belt & braces) which takes 24 hrs to fully cure, so although I've reinstalled the motor in the car I won't try it till tomorrow.
Fingers crossed..

Re: C5 Aircon flap motor
Its a shame I did not read this thread until today. I am one of those running a 22 year old 2001 C5 ! I have yet to have a problem with my heater unit, but some years ago I acquired a complete spare which I have dismantled to fully understand its functioning. As a matter of interest, is yours a left or right hand drive? The same heater unit is fitted to both, which means that ease of access varies eg via passenger glove box aperture, or above driver's pedals/steering column. Have you checked the condition of the foam seal, between the top of the heater unit output and the fascia/screen vents in the dash?
