Is it an easy enough job to fix myself would you think?
Had it at Citroen yesterday getting the cambelt and water pump replaced and asked them if they'd do it for me but they said they had to run a diagnostic check first at £145 before they would do anything.....
The issue is that the alarm sirens are anywhere from £160 to £185 each new, so you want to be sure that it is the siren unit. Hence why the dealer would confirm via a diagnostic first.
There are a few second handones coming up on the bay of evil:
Well you'll need to remove the wheel and arch lining to gain access, but should be pretty simple to do.
Some further info:
The siren diagnoses its connection with the alarm box as well as its permanent power supply.
If the siren detects a malfunction, the siren is triggered.
The siren has its own energy source consisting of accumulators.
Charging the siren battery is only permitted when the vehicle's electrical system is being charged.
When the siren loses power, the siren uses its energy reserves and triggers.
The siren is capable of sustaining 10 trigger cycles of 30 seconds when disconnected from its power supply.

I have the alarm intermittently going off very quietly. Only way I can stop it is to disconnect the battery! It's been an absolute pain today as I've been trying to get some work done in the garden. Even if I start the car and drive it can keep going. Fortunately it is not the normal car alarm sound level, so it's not upsetting neighbours too much but it's so quiet I can't always hear that it's going off when I'm in the house, so it could be going off more than I realise.
Is it possible to clarify - is the rechargeable alarm backup battery (which sounds to be a possible cause of this problem) in the siren unit or the alarm control unit?
Is it relatively easy to change the siren unit? - access to it and swapping it out etc?
And does it "just work" in terms of not needing to do anything other than plug in another one - nothing to recode?
I have searched for the part 9666808580 and it comes up with a siren unit but the newest one on eBay is from 2012. Does anyone know if the part changed for a DS5 2015? I have a DS DS5 2015 Diesel Hatch 2.0 BlueHDi 180
I also cannot source a new one with that part number - though I can see new sirens are very expensive in general!
