Citroen c5X7 suspension fault

Post by citroenx7 »

Hi, I’m
New to the forum, and I apologise if this has already been asked on numerous occasions.

Front suspension dropped, then 1 day later rear. All fuses checked by mechanic(visible fuses and invisible). All fuses ok ✅
next front hyrdraulic pump has power going to
It apparently but not the ECU. The mechanic is no Citroen specialist. He says replace the pump, and it will sort the problem.

Pumps hard to find (5277n9) and very expensive.

Is he missing something potentially obvious? I don’t know which diagnostic equip he uses to help him determine problem.

Some guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks

Is the pump operating / making a noise?

Check fuse G39 in the cabin fuse box.
Check Fuse F01 in the fuse box at the battery outlet.
Check the Supply Cut Off Relay (1524) as shown below:

If pump is not running main fuse beside battery is probably blown. This is due to gung build up within the pump. Clean pump and renew fuse . Plenty of threads on the forum to show you what to do.

Underneath the main fuse box (in the engine bay) is a Maxi fuse box. It is a bit fiddly to get at, but the maxi fuse for the BHi has probably failed (because, as KennyW has said, of the conductive gunge that has built up). I had this happen to me last year.

Pump making no noise, showing as no communication from suspension ECU. Power has been checked going into the ECU and fuses are fine.

There is power going in… but nothing out

So that's likely what has happened. Your pump that site underneath the ECU has likely been contaminated with LDS fluid or other oils that get into the pump. This results in it mixing with the carbon brush material, which forms a sludge like paste and this then causes overheating / a short circuit and constantly blows the fuse. In bad cases it can damage the internals.

So I suspect you'll either need a new pump or will need to overhaul it and see if you can clean it up.

See my post here where you can see a wire has broken:

Elis has also produced an excellent guide on removing the pump and cleaning it up with lots of step by step photos here:

Update, apparently seal broke - fluid leaked and wiped out ECU and both pumps are covered in the fluid.

Can I retro fit a standard suspension into the car, ie Bilstein shocks/springs.

Or not possible… ?

I know it defeats the purpose of the(exclusive model).

That won't help your Power Steering though - that is operated by the same fluid from the same system.....

The shocks and springs could be fitted, but there will be some differences IIRC and then there's the numerous faults you'll get until you can programme the BSI to remove the components. A lot of work and expense though that would probably cost more than a repair / replacement.
