Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Only took 3¾ hours (and ten minutes home on the bus).
Discovered these all over the road at the end of my road Couldn't see a source for them but then saw more a couple of miles away under a tree, I think they may be Beech nuts, the kind they make chewing gum from.
Jim will recognise this:
No idea where I was most of the time. Until I emerged here.
Luckily only a short (slow) walk from the nearest bus stop, and the bus stops at the bottom of my street.

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

They look as though the squirrels have been at them, mostly empty shells.

I most certainly do Steve and can't wait to run along there again next week Very happy memories!
Some cycling friends of mine rode the full C2C last week and would have cycled along there... They had quite an adventure...

Was in Barking today and was surprised to see this just behind the high street
no idea what it is/from as no sign board but was about 300 metres away from Barking Abbey so assuming something to do with this. 20 metres away, rats in their natural habitatRyan

View of the modern ruins from Town SquareView of the modern ruins from Town Square
Although this looks like a piece of the ruin of Barking Abbey, this is actually a modern decoy installed as part of the Town Square redevelopment in 2007-8 and is intended to represent a piece of Barking's history. Looking north-northwest.

They have done an amazing job on it, it looks so old, even the stone looks weather worn. It's only when you get up close and see the steel supports behind it that you start to question it. I'm back there tomorrow so I'll get some closer photos of the stone work etc

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
So there was I, busily pulling some brambles out from the undergrowth, occasionally getting pestered by wasps - it's that time of year after all.
I looked up above me and what do I find just above my head ?
I've had numerous occasions over the years where I've accidentaly disturbed a wasps nest, and yes - they do come after you just like in the cartoons

I'm thinking bottle of petrol in a spray gun, all over it and then shout NAPALM as you light it!
