Hi,
First post on here so correct me if I am doing anything wrong!
So over the past 2 months my Citroen C4 1.6 2012 has the message ‘Engine fault repair needed’ and the Amber engine light appears on the dashboard. I notice this only comes on when I am gaining speed or accelerating. It will go off after a day or two then come back on again once I hit the motorway or accelerate anywhere else. Will probably have to get the garage to diagnose it anyway but wanted to check first if anyone had any idea what could be wrong and what the rough cost would be for repair.
Engine fault repair needed.

Well, first of all, welcome!! Are you accelerating uphill, downhill? Do you have a dpf fitted to that vehicle?

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

As others have said, could be 1.6 HDi (DV6) diesel or 1.6 16v petrol (TU) - and obviously quite different potential faults between the two!

Hey,
Thanks for the responses already! It’s happening when I’m going uphill and it’s a diesel, for the fuel filter being changed I’m not 100%. In saying that I had another message come up about a particle filter! I should really get this booked in instead of putting it off

Re: Engine fault repair needed.
Since the engine light has come on a low cost code reader may be good enough to read the fault code and indicate what could be wrong. It will be cheaper than paying a garage to do this. As an example of one that also does some live data and freeze frame data when the fault happened https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FXNT200.html It could be something simple such as the MAP sensor is bunged up or the dpf is blocked.
