I am having great problems finding the correct oil filter for my 2011 Citroen C3 Picasso VTR+ . The engine code is DV6D STT E5 BVM which is a 1.6 hdi diesel 90 hp with fap. Engine number is 0045709.
All the motor factors , Eurocarparts...Halfords...EU carparts and even Citroen main dealers list the filter as 501545128 or equivalent , however this filter has a locating lug on the bottom and the old filter does not , nor indeed is there a hole in the filter housing to accept this lug .
Any ideas as to what filter would fit ? The filter installed has no name or ref number. i can see .
Any help would be appreciated as i have had to re insall the old filter with the new oil .
Regards......John

Re: Oil filter problem
Thats not coming up as a Citroen part number. Who gave you that number?
Have you cleaned out the housing to double check there is no hole there? as the housing sits at an angle there can be oil left in the bottom hiding the hole.

Re: Oil filter problem
Hello wheeler , the Citroen main dealer in Great Yarmouth did get the filter from the stores and when we opened the box it was identical to the filter i had bought at Halfords with the part number as quoted .
As i had already refilled the oil i had no choice but to re use the old oil filter . When i got back from the main dealer i once again removed the oil filter to really check if there was a locating hole and i can say with all confidence there is non , besides which , the old filter has a plastic blanking plate halfway down the inner core and the new one does not .
Thanks for your reply and hope you may be able to help.

Re: Oil filter problem
Firstly, what's to say the filter that's in the engine just now isn't wrong?
Have you actually poked your finger in where the pool of oil is? this is where the hole normally is.
I'm assuming the dealer looked up the filter by VIN, now im not saying there is not mistakes in the database, because there are mistakes but i cant imagine something like an oil filter on a model that's been on the road for several years is wrong. They must sell thousands of them every week.
Did the dealer check another box incase that one was boxed wrongly, just to rule it out?

Re: Oil filter problem
Thanks again for your reply . I have thought that the wrong filter was in place also ,and the main dealer even suggested that the engine may have been changed , but no the engine number is as on the log book .
I was hoping that there was a variation in this diesel engine that took this existing filter as standard .
Tomorrow morning i will again take off the oil filter and have an even closer look at the housing . I will of course keep you informed .
P s the dealer did ask a mechanic if the filter he sourced from stock was the right one and he said it was .
Regards....John

Re: Oil filter problem
VIN number is different to engine. It could of had an engine change and it won't be on the log book. There will be a plate on the engine which will tell you what the engine is. VIN number will give original engine.

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Re: Oil filter problem
Well, one again i removed the oil filter and lo and behold after a very close inspection i discovered that part of the old filter had broken away from the filter itself and had stayed in the filter housing thus blocking off the location hole .
Thanks to wheeler who spurred me on to take a closer look this morning.
So i did have the right filter but am amazed that a part had come away from the old filter , i note that the new filter does not have the part that stood proud and broke off or came unglued .
Problem solved .

Re: Oil filter problem
The filter with the lug/seal is not too much different to the one on our 1.6 hdi Cactus. I think the idea behind it is when when the filter cover is being undone, the filter moves out with the lug and oil in the housing drains down the hole to minimise the mess when the filter/cover is removed. When the new filter is put on, I think it should be put in the housing first so the lug is in the drain hole and then the cover put on. However, on the Cactus I have put the filter in the cover first a couple of times but find it a bit tricky to make sure the lug goes in the hole. If I had messed it up though I think the oil pressure would be low
