Steering rack!! Feed pipes this time

Unread post by Dunkah »

I’m sure regular visitors to the forum will be well schooled regarding c5 owners woes with steering racks.
I’ve just recently rebuilt a rack for my c5, including a modification that’s been widely discussed to introduce a second boot to help protect the pinion shaft.
This is the fourth time within a year I’ve had to do the steering rack due to racks leaking within a few months, incorrect racks and so on.
I had high hopes that my newest rack would be ‘the one’….. started leaking from the pipes within a few hours.
I’m starting to think I might never get these pipes to seal correctly until I buy a new pipe. So far the best I can find is a second hand pair of pipes for £260 from eBay. Seems a bit too much for second hand pipe set.
Can anyone shed any light on a possible part number, or link or any info whatsoever on where to get a new power steering pipe please?
I’m sure I only need to one that’s aluminium. I have heard previously that it’s the same pipe as fitted to one of the Citroen vans, berlingo possibly.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks all.

If you need an original, genuine part number or part diagram, and can't already find the info you need on the Forum, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future part number requests for up to 2 years, so excellent value.

Power Steering Pipes

(1) Power Steering High Pressure Pipe, part: 4014JP (No Longer Available from Citroen).
(2) Power Steering Low Pressure Pipe, part: 4012P7, (No Longer Available from Citroen).

Having a quick search, I can see there is a brand new one of 4014JP here:

Hi Marc, thanks for the diagram, really helpful.
Unfortunate that it’s no longer available. That eBay link is a dead end, no longer listed, and it’s the other pipe I need, low pressure one. Think I might try and source and old one and get an engineer friend to remanufacture the relevant end and I’ll try and make up the rest of the pipe up.
Thanks again

Hi again Jay,
Good to know you still have that housing, if you’re still willing to let it go I’d still be able to make good use of it.
Also, do I recall you saying that you had a set of pipes? If you’re also willing to let them go I’d be more than happy to buy them if available.
Thanks
