Citroen Relay ECU/BSI fun...

Unread post by dwjlivermore »

Hi there everyone

Wonder if anyone can help me with a problem with a 2012 Citroen Relay with the 2.2 Puma engine (Euro 5).

Bought the van in 2022 as a non runner as it had been jump started with two batteries in series... I purchased an ECU/BSI/igntion key from another van, put them in and all runs fine. Obviously the van thinks it's VIN number is that of the van from where the ECU/BSI came from and not the one in the windscreen.

The van has been undergoing a conversion to a campervan, which is now done and i'd like to correct a few little issues that exist since the swap.

Here are the issues:

1. Flashing mileage
2. VIN numbers in ECU/BSI are incorrect
3. The 'new' BSI is configured as if the van has parking sensors, telematics and Air conditioning, whereas my van has non of those. - This leads to a DTC for the air conditioning pressure sensor, which doesn't exist, as we all 'Parking Help Unavailable on the dash display.

I have diagbox and foolishly thought it might be easy to tell the van that it doesn't have those things, but it seems its not that easy!

Can anyone help me with the actual configuration that came from the factory for both vin numbers so i can see what the configuration differences are in detail with a view to getting this sorted somehoe. If anyone knows the easiest way for me to accomplish this, i'd be immensely grateful.

Actual van VIN number : VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
New BSI/ECU VIN number : VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Thanks for your help
Darren

I don't think I'm going to be able to assist as this has a Ford engine essentially and is not the same as a proper Citroen for sorting this issue out. It will need a special diagnostic add on module to use with Diagbox in any case for this reason. This is what the official info states regarding configuration - so even if you were to get access it would appear to be read only:
The vehicle JUMPER 3 (Relay 3) has a specific management system for the configuration data (Vehicle configuration).
The BSI memorises the different values for the configuration parameters corresponding to the vehicle, these being duplicated (all or only in part) in the following ECUs:
  • Instrument panel
  • Air-bag
  • Heating/ventilation
  • Data communication ECU
The duplication of the configuration parameter values is performed by the BSI on the order of a diagnostic tool, this function being called "alignment of the configuration data".
The alignment of the configuration data is performed at the factory at the end of the vehicle’s assembly process, it also has to be done each time the ECUs concerned are replaced.

Taking account of this management of the configuration, the diagnostic tools do not give access to the configuration parameters of the various ECUs, with the exception of the BSI (read-only access). Only a configured BSI is sold by the "Replacement Parts Service".

This procedure thus aligns, one after the other, the configurations of the following ECUs: instrument panel, airbag, aircon (if present) and telematic unit (if present) with the configuration present in the BSI whenever this is necessary, notably when an ECU is replaced.
So your issue is that the alignment is not correct as your individual ECUs have been 'aligned' with your original BSI and are now not communicating correctly with the donor BSI that has different values. According to the info above the the BSI is only supplied pre-configured.

Maybe you could speak to the dealer and see if they will be able to do anything by downloading the configuration - hard to say.

Hi there,

Yes it does need the S1279 adapter to be plugged into the Lexia, I do have one and as you say, the BSI does appear to be read only.

Is it possible to find out the factory options that came with each VIN number?

Many thanks.

I can provide that for you, but it will require a membership upgrade, please see below - I have the VINs already provided by you, so if you want to go ahead, I'll send these as 2 PDFs via email.
If you need an original, genuine part number or part diagram, and can't already find the info you need on the Forum, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future part number requests for up to 2 years, so excellent value.

If interested, links are below, then pop your VIN up.
A response to your question by a Forum Admin requiring parts or additional information requires you to have made a current contribution (£10 min.) to the Forum.

Good luck, and don't forget your membership upgrade means you can request official part numbers or parts diagrams, on this thread:
