P1434 96 - Can I drive?

Unread post by mara- »

Few hours ago, I got message that something is wrong with the engine, connected Diagbox and got this P1434 96 error. I know is related to FAP additive pump. And my bad luck is that this happened just few days before my vacation trip, so I don't think I have enough time for repairs.

Anyone knows can I drive with this error? Will the car do the regeneration? The trip is a longer one, about 300 kilometers, so it's not a city drive. The car is Peugeot 308 T9.

Any thoughts?

Hard to say as there's an issue - but follow the conditions for the fault to clear and see if that resolves it. If not and there is a pump failure, it won't be injecting any additive into the fuel tank. Now if you're going to be doing lots of driving in free flowing traffic where the exhaust gasses are going to be nice and hot, then the system will be hot enough to regenerate the particle filter naturally. But if you are going to be stuck in lots of stop / start traffic, then the filter is likely to get clocked without the the benefit of assisted regeneration. So only you can decide really. Here's the fault code info anyway:

Fault Code: P1434 96
Description of Fault: Multiplexed additive pump : Multiplexed pump fault. Particle filter additive system: Electrical failure.
Detection of at least 6 faulty items of information sent by the multiplexed additive pump.
The time of appearance of the fault code is 6 seconds.
Conditions for Fault to clear: The following conditions have to be met:
- Addition of 10 litres of fuel
- Driving with the engine hot for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: -
Symptoms:
  • Lack of power
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
  • Starting problem
  • Deactivation or switching off of the cruise control/speed limiter function
  • Fluid leak/smells (diesel fuel, oil, etc.)
Suspect Areas:
  • Electrical harness
  • Connector
  • Additive level
  • Additive tank
  • Additive injector
  • Multiplexed additive pump
  • Fuel pump - gauge module

Thanks for reply. So, natural regeneration can happen, that's good to know. It will be a long drive to another country, then I am leaving the car on the airport, and it will stay there 6 days, and then back home. After that I plan to fix it. Already tried that condition to clear the fault, but it didn't clear.

Just be aware of the possible symptoms listed above, and a risk you are willing to take. I'd certainly make sure you have some international breakdown cover in case you have problems as you don't want to be stranded on holiday or at the airport.

The trip went just fine. Before it, I took another go with Diagbox. I discovered another error in the Particulate additive filter section. It said that my tank for additive is empty. I have no idea why. I refilled it 3 years ago, and drove about 30.000km since then, so it couldn't possibly be empty. And I did the procedure to reset it back then.

Now, I had to repeat it again, delete all the errors, and car works fine, even observed regeneration using FAP android app. The amount is probably not correct now, but I didn't find option anywhere to enter the amount.

Still, one thing was really strange. Before the latest reset, the additive in the tank was showing more amount then the capacity.

Now, after the reset, and adding the fuel, the amount is 3ml lower then capacity of 1080ml, so pump is injecting the additive.

BTW, that capacity is also strange, for my car and engine it's supposed to be 1350ml.

Any thoughts on all this?
