About to purchase a C5X7

Unread post by Sauravisus »

Howdy fellow Citroën enthusiasts!

I'm about to purchase my 2nd C5, an X7 this time, to replace my ailing Mk 1. However, as it's across the country from where I sit, I'd like to check out some things about it first, though I must admit my Google-fu has failed me because I couldn't find a good VIN Decoder tool. So I was hoping one of you lovely people could potentially read the VIN and let me know what kind of extras the car has. I'm particularly interested in the headunit, if it supports bluetooth or not, as well as parking sensors (assuming that's information retrievable via VIN, of course)

The VIN in question is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. That should yield a 4 door, mativoire coated, 2.0 16V 140 hp engine, C5X7.

Thanks in advance. :-D

PS. I didn't lose any features on my Mk 1 by replacing the headunit, but I've been told that'll 100% happen on the Mk 3, so... What features would I lose, and would it be worth it just finding a RD45 unit if the car has a RD4 unit, rather than replacing it with a 3rd party aftermarket unit?

If you want a full build specification for your Citroen, Peugeot or DS vehicle, then I'll be happy to provide that for you, but it does require a membership upgrade (please see details below), but I can advise you that the above is a 2.0 Petrol vehicle and has a basic RD4 system, but does have front and rear parking assistance.

If you need an original, genuine part number or part diagram, and can't already find the info you need on the Forum, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future part number requests for up to 2 years, so excellent value.

Thanks for your Forum donation - your member status has been automatically upgraded.

Would you still like the full build sheet for the above vehicle? If so, let me know, it will take about 15 minutes for me to get it into an acceptable PDF document and email it to you.

Yes please, that'd be fantastic. Thank you. 😁

And, if you know, what features are tied into the head unit that a 3rd party replacement would essentially kill off access to?

Most things that the RD4 controls or provides access to - (displays, data, vehicle options, diagnostic checks, parking assistance audio possibly). It depends on options and what it is being replaced with.

The RD4 in this vehicle is the lowest trim level (so has a mono tuner and standard accounstics).

Role of the RD4 audio system (All trim levels):
  • To receive audible radio broadcast transmissions in amplitude and frequency modulation (AM and FM)
  • To present the list of stations available
  • To play a compact disc via the integrated compact disc player (single CD) / Via a compact disc changer (CDC)
  • To select 5 musical ambiences (Vocal, Techno, Jazz, Rock, Classic)
  • To manage 1 or 2 stereophonic audio inputs (according to the level of finish) located at the rear of the unit, the two inputs being analogue (auxiliary source)
  • To manage 4 stereophonic audio outputs
  • To control a compact disc changer
  • To control the stereophonic audio outputs, superimposed over an audio source (if necessary), for the parking assistance function
  • To be compatible with the "hands-free kit" function
  • To manage the power amplifier system
  • To be controlled by a steering wheel control
  • To display information on the remote multifunction display
  • To carry out diagnostics of its own operation and of that of its peripheral devices
  • To manage the hands-free kit
I'll send an email shortly with the build data.

Welcome aboard the forum buddy, nice to see you becoming a "fully paid up member" so quickly :-) We're a friendly lot on here, and will help you quite a bit, the membership upgrade really does pay for itself with access to parts info / detailed documentation for procedures etc...

Welcome, I wasn't sure on paying when I joined but wow!! The help you get is untold. If you get bored just do what I do and ask Give me break a part number you don't need. I'm joking...

Well, I'd say it already has, with the comprehensive list of details about the car I'm gonna be purchasing this week. Already spoke to the seller, and he'd even take my Mk1 in as part of the cost. Score!
And thanks to GiveMeABreak, I know I'm going to be ordering a RD45 headunit + appropriate display unit, and mic/USB/AUX cables. Found a couple youtube vids on how to do the cable routing, and it looks super easy. I'm super excited to get into all this.

I fully agree, it's wild to me. 😁 And who knows, I might be back asking about other bits and bobs about the X7. Apparently the seller has it outfitted with 18" rims, so that's new to me coming from a Mk1. It looks gorgeous though.

Couple of pics in the spoiler here

Actually, apart from the obvious 'John McEnroe' connotation, a 'Break' is also the continental name for the C5 Estate, and as I had 3 of them (albeit saloons :-D ) it was still apt for my handle, along with running round like a blue-arsed fly. :geek:

And I can now inform that I've got the car, and my C5 Mk1 is no longer with us. But man the X7 is a nice ride.

Front end seems a bit high if that´s normal position in that picture above. You should get it adjusted and the ride will get even better.
