DS3 Error code help please

Unread post by thfcmad »

Hi everyone,

I’m new here but hoping someone may be able to help me out please. I’ve had my 2013 DS3 for a couple of months and all was fine until this week.

Engine felt rough and lacked power and when I finished my journey the engine fan stayed on full blast for about 5-10 mins.

Today the engine management light came on and I have 2 errors.

B0107
P2178

Car is a DS3 2013 1598cc VTI 120.

VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

I’m reading lots of different things and hoping it’s something easy and cheap I can fix myself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, so there's one more thing I need to know. There are 2 versions of Engine ECU fitted. Either a MEV17.4 or a MEV17.4.2. It makes a big difference as to the fault code, so here's where you can identify which you have from the label:

Let me know which version you have.

As for the 'B0107' code, it's not a valid code. Are you sure it isn't 'P0107'?

Hi thanks so much for your reply. I will take a look when I finish work. I take it thats in the engine bay somewhere and not located somewhere random?

As for the codes, please see my pic. Confused as to where it got the code from. 😂🤦???

Ok, so that first code is not recognised - probably down to you scan tool not being able to read constructor codes.

The label is on the engine ECU itself, so depending on where it is located it may or may not be easily readable.

Hi just had a look and its 17.4.2.

Is there anyway of finding out what the other code might be without a different reader?

Thanks again for your help.

No, because it's not a valid PSA fault code, so there is nothing to relate it to. As for the other one:
Fault Code: P2178
Description of Fault: Richness adjustment: Coherence. Air quantity too low.
The corrective factors of the air quantity have produced a value that is not plausible.
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics: Engine management ECU in main triggering phase
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • The air flow is below a minimum threshold
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: -
Symptoms:
  • Idle unstable
  • Stalling at idle
  • Emissions outside the norms
  • Excessive fuel consumption
Suspect Areas:
  • Air cleaner
  • Fuse
  • Electrical harness
  • Inlet air temperature and pressure sensor
  • Canister discharge solenoid valve
  • Cylinder head cover
  • Air line
  • Engine fusebox
  • Fuel pump
  • Fuel system
  • Breather pipe
  • Upstream oxygen sensor
  • Exhaust manifold
  • Catalytic converter
  • Engine compressions
  • Variable valve lift system

Hi, I would work your way down that possibles list starting with the air filter. Check it has not got leaf blockage in the feed duct as well as the filter itself. Then work your way down. As for the B0107 code, it would appear that that is a generic OBDII code which relates to a passenger airbag fault. This link will tell you more about it: https://www.engine-codes.com/b0107.html Good luck :-D

Thank you so much for all your help so far. I do not have the equipment or ability to narrow down the issues so im going to have to go let a garage have a look. Can anyone give me a worst case scenario on costings?

The most obvious thing to do is look at the air filter. Take that out and see what sort of colour it is, plus look at the inside of the box and make sure there's no leaves and other debris at the bottom.

Consider replacing the air filter as a basic first step as this is where your air is going into the engine and if the filter is blocked then it's going to cause issues with the fuel mixture. It's a cheap option that is easy to sort. then see if that improves things after a run.

Hi, yeah I did that and all looks fine. Filter looks in good condition and nothing blocking from what I could see. Checked all the fuses as well and they all looked fine. Im open to any other suggestions though. All help is greatly appreciated.
