Berlingo 12 Plate Additive Pickle

Unread post by Doo »

I keep getting the management light. It would seem various causes & I'm still not sure if the battery is tip top (starts 1st time every time) and it's tripping the CanBus or is there an actual fault?

I get the occasional left front ABS sensor (bit busy to go fighting with a duff bolt) and other ghosts in the machine. However, the real annoyance is the code reader showing I need to top up the additive, despite the car NOT having anything from the factory,

Another curious thing is it tells me in order to permanently erase the code, I need to input a "key" if my car has start/stop. It has, but there isn't any apparent help regarding said key or where to input the key (code I imagine) so I'm left with a fault code I can't appear to erase!

The engine goes like a mad rat. It's a piloted box, but she spins in 1st gear with half throttle or more, such is the torque.

It is telling me the ash is at 100%, so how do I deal with that? Again, there is nothing on the code reader to suggest I can do it manually (unless I suppose I go to service mode as opposed to code reading mode).

So my question is, do I remove the DPF and use the pressure washer to (carefully) blow it backwards (from the exit end back towards the turbo end with it fully removed, obvs) or should I soak it in some proprietary cleaner 1st?

I've not dealt with such an issue before, but I suppose it'll become more common if I start dealing with these things....

Thanks all.

It will have additive - usually you get a warning on the screen that the additive is low? Refill and tell it you've done so (possibly in both the engine and additive ECU) then you should be able to erase the code.

The DPF being full is a normal code at around 100k, and normally results in a permanent 'Risk of clogging' message on the dash at key on - provided the pressures are OK, then you can jsut tell it that you've replaced it, and it will go away happy. You could take if off and clean it, it needs to be soaked in brick acid to dissolve the Eolys residue - there was thread about this a while back where I posted a video of various cleaning methods.

Don't know anything about S/S!!

So.....where does the additive go? There is nothing obvious on this car!

It's at 156k and the pressures are either 0 or 3 (I can't remember as I was tired after limping it home and stopping before the bridge to reset with the code reader, which got me all my gears back and let me go at speed). When I 1st got the car, it would barely pull it's own doors shut, whereas now it'll rip em off and keep accelerating

All the injector pulses were almost perfectly matched at idle, all the usual stuff seeming fine. The only thing that worried me was the alternator temp showing 108 C :o But I guess it's always in the oven.

So, back to the additive. No obvious lids or bottles or even dash warnings. One thing is I ordered a filter & got the wrong one for my engine (ehdi 1.6 8v) as mine takes the plastic one shaped a bit like a fuel tank. The factor said it is the older model.... So I guess they were using up older engines.

Remember your membership upgrade means you can request official part numbers from us on the parts thread:

viewtopic.php?t=69962

Aftermarket suppliers don't always provide correct data.

If this is for your Berlingo, VIN ending 105 then yes, you have a particle filter. The additive tank is hidden away next to the fuel tank, usually on the left hand side, but is protected by heat shields from the exhaust. It can only be filled with a filling kit that is gravity fed. These are usually supplied with the additive bottles and are available with or without the filling kits. Of course you will need to reset the additive counter to zero once topped up. Minimum top up should be 1 lt.

It's not deemed a 'customer' DIY job which is why you won't find it in the handbooks, and only needs to be topped up once or twice during the life of the vehicle.

It has to be close to the fuel tank and has to be protected from the exhaust heat (especially during vehicle DPF regeneration - temperatures), so that is where they chose to fit it and is the preferred location even on even on later vehicles throughout the diesel range. Don't forget that later vehicles also have to have a UREA tank fitted for Adblue in addition, so there's not many other places to put it.

Bought brick acid (10 litres as I have some oil spots to clean off the lock block) and called to price Gen yoo ine DPF eolys from PSA.

Are we sitting down children? Then I'll begin...

ONE HUNDRED NINETY QUID    And it's a set price, so NO trade discount!!!

That's about right, 160 odd plus the hoary party dreaded VAT

I picked myself off the floor and thanked him & bade hime good afternoon :argue:

Amazon, £30 for a kit. Is the genuine stuff made from Unicorn hooves or what? That's scandalous

This week Mathew, I will be Doo and I'll be singing "Who do you think you are kidding mister Sunaktler....!"

Just make sure you have the correct additive - it is critical or can cause the additive pump to block.

For your build date you need Powerflex additive exclusively.

Not necessarily, I'll need the VIN to check, our C3 didn't.

Ok, so your Wife has the 110 engine with a DPF. However, she has a different system to you, meaning that instead of a reservoir, she has a 'pouch' based system. The tank looks the same but is just a housing, into which the old pouch is disconnected and the new pouch inserted. It still needs the engine ECU additive counter resetting. Note also that the Eolys type originally supplied was Eolys 176, which is no longer made, Citroen recommend a Powerflex pouch.

So my advice here is leave it until the warning comes on and then replace with a new pouch (part number: 9678080680). This is a 2.2 litre pouch so must be replaced with the same.

Eurocarcare (note not to be confused with Euro Car Parts) have these here:
