Just seen Roger.. A little ramp will make things a lot easier! You should not need to move the steering to see the drips... In fact the power steering return flows most when the steering is straight ahead and the steering wheel stationary.

Squeeze the gaiters to see if they are full of LHM...

Keep us all posted ;)

Will do.

Just had a good read of a post by John back in 2012 so I feel semi geared up.

In his case it was a pin-hole in one of the pinion pipes. Seen a picture of one out of situ and now understand why they are a bugger to do in-situ.

ok.. finally back under..
sure enough, that little metal pipe is the only leak.. a drip at idle turns into a stream with steering,
quick question, do I need to depressurise to remove this? i cant see I do, being part of the steering not suspension.. life would be easier if I can keep her on high..

about to operate,,

Xantia 2.0 HDi Leak Identification

Unread post by Rhothgar »

Evening Marc.

Hope you are well.

Please could have sight of relevant microfiches for any rubber return pipework in the engine bay for the 2.0HDi?

Thanks, I've deleted the superfluous posts as requested Roger.

Just let me know which part numbers you need when you are ready.

Well this looks interesting pipe which I assume is a breather of some sort because it is not wet internally.

And LHM on the exhaust and underside of exhaust recess! I’ve not actuated steering yet but I would be guessing this location is more likely to be brake doseur unless the high pressure side of the steering is squirting it to these locations.

Hi Marc.

OK. It’s not steering from what I can see.

Now we are focussing on I think the brake circuit?

There are four pipes that sit above a recess on the bulkhead halfway down

and they connect to a four way? valve or connector of some kind just behind the LHM reservoir.

LHM leak is tracking along gear selector cables, dripping onto exhaust. The bulkhead matting al looks soaked and this could well be a legacy from when the clutch was done and I allowed brake fluid to drip down the pipes under clutch master cylinder.

There also appears to be a disconnected pipe. I am sure I posted this already but cannot find it. Getting a bit confused.

Sorry Marc. I got a little confused. I know you said you’d moved the post but it didn’t register fully hence why I asked you to delete superfluous posts. I didn’t want to mess up your nice neat parts thread as I thought it was in there. You see I do read sometimes and noticed that you like to keep your house in order. 😁

Now I know you had already started a thread on this, I've now merged the other topic with this one to keep everything and avoid duplication Roger. Hence, there will be a duplicate post with the photos, but as it has different content I've left it as is.

Cheers Marc.

There appear to be SIX pipes but hard to tell without further stripping.

Parts 1, 3, 11, 2 and 10 please.

That's leaking in a slightly unusual place Roger... However, having said that...

What will be well worth a check, if you have not already done so, especially as you say the bulkhead matting is wet, is the rubber leakage return hose from the brake dosuer valve. I've had one 'go' in the past... It runs right across the bulkhead to the LHM reservoir...

And that pipe that appears to be disconnected may be the heater box drain. The one that drains off condensate when the A/C is in use...

Cheers Jim.

Invaluable advice.

Now using my mate’s borescope. I can see what appears to be green blood accumulating on a bulkhead clip. It’s SO damned difficult to manoeuvre around.
