Hello again everyone,
car is a !.8 16 valve xantia,
182000 miles, not bad for a petrol model.
Just failed the MOT on emissions, handbrake cable snapped as he tested it and a corroded hydraulic pipe, changed the cable, new filter and spark plugs.
so can anyone tell me which pipe this is and where it goes to.
The pipe comes off the K piece and curves up through the hole then runs along the top, it's marked with a yellow crayonhttps://frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/download/file.php?mode=view&id=51918

Re: Hydraulic Pipe
I think it's a brake line Peter... I can't be certain from the photo... Follow the other pipes that terminate on the 'K' junction and see if you can see where one or more end up. Then can advise better...
You may need to drop the subframe to renew the pipe but that's not such a difficult task as it sounds... Stickyfinger of this parish can offer some very good advice on this

Re: Hydraulic Pipe
You may be able to extract something from this old thread of mine. I had a bit of difficulty identifying the pipe and where it went for a leaking one which disappeared over the top of the subframe. It did turn out to be a Number 9, front to back brake pipe in my case, although the great and the good on the forum had some debate over the ID.

Try putting together something like this diagram I did at the time to id the pipe...No claims to accuracy from me are made, it was some time ago

Re: Hydraulic Pipe
Neil, thanks for that, it's just what I was looking for, knew i'd seen it somewhere. I assume no9 stops at the support bracket (15) then is screwed to no10.
Jim, you're right, very useful.
The garage will be doing that bit, I don't have the equipment to be safely under the car with the pressure released. I will be showing this to the garage though.

Re: Hydraulic Pipe
The support bracket is this, just four straight "joiners". If you had a scan at the original thread you will see that I didn't replace the whole pipe and used a new straight joiner at the rear to the straight pipe going the length of the car. Probably not a recommended fix as its difficult making an in-situ special "citroen flare" on the steel pipe although I borrowed a tool to do it.peter306 wrote: 07 Mar 2023, 08:32 Neil, thanks for that, it's just what I was looking for, knew i'd seen it somewhere. Engine bay support bracket no 15
The pipe itself, if yours is the no9 like mine, as originally specified in the diagram from Service Citroen is 3.5 diameter and 3.768 metres long. I would doubt the part with all the bends pre-formed remains available from Citroen, and what a nightmare to fit at that sort of length and configuration.
The Citroen Plumbing requires its own joiners, ends, flares and seals and pipe, and not the bog standard ones your average garage uses on "normal" vehicles. I would say make sure your selected garage knows what they are doing, and know where to get the right parts from.
I don't know if Pleiades where I got my bits and pieces from (joiners, ends, 3.5mm pipe) are still doing the Citroen hydraulic specialist thing. Can't find a website for them but they appear still to have premises here. They should be able to supply the right bits if they still do them.

Re: Hydraulic Pipe
Thanks Neil, the garage has worked on Citroens and are quite good, they also listen, they did say they have pipes made up so I don't believe the have a Citroen flaring tool, my local specialist ( Pryton Engineering) closed a few years ago.
So looking at the bracket Pipe no9 is screwed into the joiner then runs to the back over the subframe and connects to the K junction. should be pre flared at each end.
Just spoke to Pleiades and they are still going.

Re: Hydraulic Pipe
That's great Peter, hope you have a successful conclusion to the pipe replacement. Always nice to finish off threads with a successful conclusion, so it would be good if you could do a report back (maybe even with a bit of camera work
) and if the garage did a good job give them a pat on the back with a name check in the recommended garages and services section of the forum.

My recent February Ferret of the FCF archives dug up at random a thread of mine entitled "CentreVille Garage Closed" from 2013, one of the long established Citroen Specialists in the North-East. Did a bit of an addon to the original thread and they were by no means alone so nice that you confirmed today that Pleiades are still in business.peter306 wrote: 07 Mar 2023, 10:34 ...my local specialist ( Pryton Engineering) closed a few years ago.

Re: Hydraulic Pipe
I will update after it's done, they can't get the car in till Monday.
In the picture with the support bracket is the block to the left a flaring kit or just the die set, pleiades mention a type A and a type D flaring kit, type A can be used on the car.
Lens place (Pryton) always reminded me of the garage in HeartBeat, they did know Citroens though.

Re: Hydraulic Pipe
That's the little flaring tool. don't know the name or the type. Makes ends like this, the old one out of the offside "K" connector. Hard to make a decent one on the existing steel pipe. I think they need the "seal" to complete the job bottom right of the "4-Joiners pic", but its some time since I did the job.peter306 wrote: 07 Mar 2023, 12:06 In the picture with the support bracket is the block to the left a flaring kit or just the die set, pleiades mention a type A and a type D flaring kit, type A can be used on the car.

Re: Hydraulic Pipe
Managed to get under the car again today, lowered the subframe and took more photos.
The K joint has the one pipe going over the subframe and definitely looks like No9 in Neils graphics. The other two head off towards the Height corrector.
