2.7 HDi timing belt(s)
Afternoon,
My C6 2.7 is creeping up to its interval for the timing belt to be changed.
Having had a look at parts it appears that there are two belts - the main timing belt that looks fairly typical, and then a separate belt from one of the camshaft sprockets to the injection pump.
Are these both recommended to be changed at the same time or is this not necessary? I asked a few garages for quotes and when I mentioned them having two belts it was like I was speaking an alien language to them, even Citroen themselves. Some rather high quotes obtained but some garages, including a self proclaimed "French car specialist" near Nottingham who wouldn't even entertain the idea because "we haven't done one before". (Not quite sure how that works when you're a garage, I'm sure they hadn't done anything at all before it opened but I digress)
The quotes I've obtained seem to be in the ballpark region of £950 - £1000 including my local Citroen dealer. Does this seem about right? As it seems rather steep to me.
Also, as the auxiliary belt is coming off to do the job anyway, do people normally change the water pump out as well or just leave it alone?
Any knowledge or insight much appreciated. Cheers!

Re: 2.7 HDi timing belt(s)
Not C6 or 2.7 HDi specific, but the prices quoted are similar to what I've heard for the (petrol) ES9 V6 belt change on the 406 Coupe (I'm on that forum too)
I did help my mate with his 2.7 Discovery, but we didn't do the timing belt. I'd forgotten the water pump wasn't timing belt driven.
I would not think it a big additional amount of work to do coolant pump with timing belt change - and rules out possiblity of coolant being spilt on the new belt if pump changed in future.
Watching "Up N Down" C6 videos on YouTube, there's a C6 coolant pipe, runs above left driveshaft and is vulnerable to corrosion - I'd give that a very good looking at ahead of any coolant related works, in case fixing that looks imminent too

And thank you for the info on the pipe!

Re: 2.7 HDi timing belt(s)
There is one timing belt (12) and 2 Timing Chains (17)
(12) Part: 0816K2, £129.60
(17) Timing Chains Part: 0816G9 are £70.14 each.
Coolant Pump
(1) Coolant Pump Citroen Original, part: 1201G6, £113.68
(1) Coolant Pump Citroen Cheaper alternative, part: E111672, £102.07
There are various tools as well as locking pins for this job. If you are thinking of attempting this yourself, let me know if you want me to put together a procedure.

Re: 2.7 HDi timing belt(s)
Is there not a second belt for the injection pump? Only going off Autodoc which can be a bit ambiguous, but various motor factors offer two belts for that engine.
Are the chains an item that need replacement as well or can they be safely forgotten?
It is likely I will take the job on myself, only done one timing belt before and that was on a 1.6 HDi but learn by doing of course.
If you have time and are willing to produce a procedure for it that would be fantastic thank you!
Cheers,
Miles

Discovery Timing belt: Not sure, would not think so, as access didn't seem that terrible (we delved into it for alternator replacement. Once that huge engine driven fan is out the way seemed ok for space. Faces the other way in a disco, so not against the inner wing, belts at the front instead.Orbit Motors wrote: 01 Mar 2023, 14:52 Body off job on a Disco I believe isn't it?

Coolant pipe: Tried to re-find the specific video where it was mentioned, but not stumbled across it as yet.

Re: 2.7 HDi timing belt(s)
It's probably because it's a separate area (injection) and not listed with the timing:
(9) Injection Pump Toothed Belt, part: 192671, £100.67
It will take me a while to put these up, so I'll leave a link back on this thread when I finished these in an hour or so.

Re: 2.7 HDi timing belt(s)
On any of my C6's I replace all the coolant related stuff at the same time as both belts. These include:-
Water Pump, Thermostat, coolant inlet (items 4 & 5 on Marc's water pump picture).
The inlet is a bitch to do but will break at or around 100k miles or 10 years and as the temp sensor is mounted high on the engine, you get no warning when it drops all the coolant out of the bottom until your engine goes bang!
I've never bothered changing the Aux belt as that's easier to get at to change at anytime.
If this is your second belt change, you might also want to consider an oil pump, especially if you only do the standard service interval of 20k oil changes.
£1000 including parts is about right. Belt kit is £200 and it'll take most of the day to do.

Re: 2.7 HDi timing belt(s)
I recently had the injection pump drive belt replaced on my C6. It had a timing belt a few years ago but I didn't have record of the pump belt being done.
Sure enough it was original, having done108k miles, the belt was starting to lose its teeth! So probably wasn't going to be long before it went and stranded me somewhere.

Re: 2.7 HDi timing belt(s)
Goodday readers, i have a similar issue myself! As soon as it’s getting up to temp it’s practically dumping all it’s coolant on the floor. If i look up past the cat, i can see drips but i havent been able to crawl under to check where exactly it’s coming from when the engine is running as I fear an overheat.
