Engine swap C5 X7

Unread post by silvering »

Hi guys

Time for engine swap. Not because its needed, but because i want 😁

I have 2010 RHR with Delphi injection system. The engine i got from the donor car is with Siemens injection system. I got the whole engine with the BSM. The donor car has burned out so the BSI has melted.

My question is is there gonna be a problem after installing the new BSM and do i need to introduce it somehow to the my BSI.

Every advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Ok, so be aware that there are several variants of the DW10BTED4 engine. The older one is a Euro 4 and the other a Euro 5 engine, so emissions are higher which may be an issue on vehicle tests / tax in your country.

As it stands the BSI, Engine ECU and Fobs are paired. If you are just using the engine, and keeping your engine ECU I can't say what the consequences will be, but there may likely be a mismatch with the software and settings if it is set for the later Euro 5 version of this engine.

The donor i think was also with euro4. RHR for sure. The emissions wont be a problem. I want to use only the engine, but as i said the new engine is with Siemens and my BSM is for Delphi. I have the engine ECU for the new engine, but was wondering if it can be paired to My BSI and fob, so i just swap the engine and the engine ECU..

So I just checked from your VIN and the Euro and engine code are the same - so no issue there.

You can't just put the new engine ECU in as it will be coded to the Donor vehicle BSI.

Here's the problem:

Normally you may be able to get an engine ECU specialist to copy the engine ECU data, where you send off both units and they copy the settings from one to the other - but in this case you are not using the same engine ECU - so they probably can't do that as they will be different units (one Delphi and one Siemens).

https://www.ecudecode.co.uk/HW966691258 ... 80/dcm3-5/

Also they changed the injector harness - from build date 3 November 2008 (RPO 11683). Your RPO is 12153.
So if the Donor engine has an RPO of 11682 or earlier, the engine harness will have a different part number, but what the differences are I can't say of course.

I see. I dont know if i got the harness from the donor. But this will be sorted.

Last year i was diving deep into diagbox with one 307sw and i saw an option for bsi or bsm change. Which brought me the thought that new bsm can be introduced to bsi with diagbox..

Engine ECU - Paired to BSI.
Engine Fuse Box not paired and can be replaced.

The options you saw in Diagbox are probably the ones to pair a new engine ECU to the BSI, so that won't work with an Engine ECU that has already been paired (without having it virginised first).

So i either need to virginize it or i need to find in ebay already virginized one with the dame part number.

Lets say i have virgin engine ecu, all i need to do then is introduce the BSM to the BSI and it will work with my old keys?

Edit: i also have another engine (well i actually have 6 spare cars) with delphi injection system. If i use this one with my original engine ecu all should be plug and play i think? Im attaching photo of the delphi donor engine ecu.

Officially, if replacing a new engine ECU, you would need to have the confidential customer code for your existing vehicle, fit the engine ECU and then go to replacement parts and specify replacement. Then there is a procedure for pairing the engine ECU to your BSI. After that the diagnostic tool needs to be connected to PSA servers to update the software on the engine ECU.

Whether there is additional programming or configuration after that I can't say for sure. But you would need a PSA account and pay for tokens to do this from Citroen. But again, whether they would allow or block your clone VCI once connected I can't say...

If you are going to do this be warned, and also it would be a good idea to screenshot all the settings and configuration pages in your existing engine ECU which may be similar to the one you are replacing it with.

Also be warned that if you manage the first step in pairing the donor engine ECU to your existing BSI, then you may have locked out your existing engine ECU to the BSI, so if you have problems I suspect you may not be able to just plug your old one back in. Don't forget your key fobs will also not work to start the car as they won't handshake with the engine ECU once that is replaced without programming.

Wheeler may chip in if he sees this as he has experience with this sort of thing.

In that case i will use the engine with delphi injectors and will use my original engine ecu.
