Hi all, does anyone have a procedure for removal of the oil cooler on a C5 x7 2.0hdi 140bhp. Mine is throwing oil into the coolant. I got it unbolted but the hose there is a hose attached to a plastic pipe on the block. I have a new one coming. It comes with the plastic pipe and hose attached so I cut the hose but I want to replace the plastic pipe. I know you probably think I am nuts you are probably right.
I bought a used one on eBay but it is completely different so no good.
I am not using it at the moment because of several other jobs I am doing on it including a new hub and upper ball joint. I just don't want to break the plastic pipe in the block it's not immediately obvious how to remove it.

Re: Oil cooler replacement procedure
Oil coolers are usually on automatics... are you sure you don't have a head gasket or seal issue elsewhere?

Re: Oil cooler replacement procedure
Hi Marc, yeah its a common issue on modern cars. If it was head gasket I'd have mayonnaise. It's oil sitting on top of the coolant not mixed text book oil cooler leak. I have the oil cooler off. It's a pain but I got it. It's part of the oil filter assembly

Re: Oil cooler replacement procedure
Just to update this thread I done the oil cooler and flushed the system a couple of times and now have a very healthy looking cooling system. I ended up cutting the upper hose to remove it. The new one came with the hose. A bit of a pig to get it out because it's buried in under pipework at the front but there are much more difficult jobs to do. There are different types so be aware of this before cutting anything. I forgot to take photos.
