On a 1999 car it should be on the tyre pressure label in the door shut, probably 5 digits with a leading 0.

If you could find someone with a suitable crimping tool, the leak would probably be fixed by squeezing the sleeve a little more.

I’m assuming a joint can’t be put in. When you say “replace the rubber pipe”, do you mean with a steel or rubber section?

Just the rubber section..........re-use the metal parts.

I was looking for a stencilled number like previous Citroens I’ve owned. There are two numbers, 08255CJ & 10310 so I assume the first number is the RP.

Can the joint be re crimped?

It should be stencilled on the RH strut tower Maurice, along with a four letter stencilled paint code...

And on an S2 car it should be on a sticker next to the tyre pressure sticker on the driver's side door shut as well.

It'll be either suffixed or prefixed 'CJ' - CJ being the factory code for where it was built...

I'm ever so sorry Maurice, what I thought were hydractive hydraulic pipes in my spares stash turned out to be Xantia air conditioning pipes :(

My apologies...

No problem Jim, thanks for looking.

I don’t know how to move this forward now.
Is the rubber pipe just crimped in place?, if so can it be separated from the steel pipes?
I may talk to Martin or Simon at Pleiades again and see what they think.

The rubber to steel joints have crimped steel sleeves on the outside, these are cramped with a die that leaves them perfectly round so that the rubber is evenly pressed onto the inner barb.

The steel sleeve is originally welded onto the pipe itself, to replace the rubber, the sleeve must be cut open and cut off, without damaging the inner barb. The replacement crimped sleeve would not be welded to th pipe.

A specialist will have no problem remaking/fixing the rubber pipe section to the existing metal pipes.....as said, just make sure they get the metal sections in their original orientation to each other.......

As a side note: LHM is quite common in hydraulics (JCB etc) so compatible rubber is/has been available for many many years.

Sorted?
Barry Annells has been doing his stuff! He had the pipe work made up and fitted it yesterday and everything is working fine.
Barry is a bit concerned about one of the joints but because I found the leak when getting ready for an MOT and that has now run out so I can’t give it a run yet. So it’ll be an MOT first and then see how we go.

Thanks guys, Barry is a bit apprehensive (not used that word for a while) about one of the joints but we can only wait and see, good old AA at the ready😉
The MOT should be okay, they always find something to put down but I’ve only had 2 fails in ten years, a failed exhaust and a steering boot loose. Every MOT is interesting, I’ve had some crazy ones like with an XM we’re the light beam was too high ‘cos the engine was off and the rear had dropped!

I would have complained about that XM fail (if it did fail). As I understand it the MoT stations have clear information about all of the vehicles they would be expected to test, so they should have looked up the Citroen XM and found that, as the suspension is driven by the engine, the posture of the vehicle would be different when the engine is running and when it is not, and this would affect the road lights.

That MOT station was known for producing loads of fails and then having no time to fit you back in, just bloody minded. At my previous visit they failed the car on two tyres because the tread was illegal. Went to a local tyre place & they confirmed that they were okay. I like most customers became ex-customers and the place closed.
