407 HDi 2.7 cylinder and injector numbering (and coding)

Unread post by 407 »

I've search high and low but could not get a answer to what the cylinder numbers and injector numbers are on a HDi 2.7 litre V6.

Below is what I have deduced using data off Landrover forum re the 2.7 TDV6 engine (uses the same 2.7 block) (turned to the right for the Pug traverse mounting)

This is to id two injectors that Diag is reporting as overfueling (with resulting smoke etc)

Happy to be corrected

Do the injectors on a HDI also need to be coded ? and if so, where on Diag can you find this ?

****************************************

Numbering of the cylinders 1 to 3 starting at the back part of the engine starting at the right (when in the car, driver side for UK cars) and 4 to 6 for the front cylinders with 4 directly opposite 1.

Injector numbers are based on the firing order 1 4 2 5 3 6 and not the cylinder numbers.

That is injector 1 is cylinder 1, injector 2 is cylinder 4, injector 3 is cylinder 2, injector 4 is cylinder 5, injector 5 is cylinder 3, injector 6 is cylinder 6.

There's no mention of coding the injectors on this specific vehicle with this specific engine.

Thanks Marc

Seems PF Jones says the same thing re coding

I assume there is no way to adjust the flow rate of injectors via Diag given I have two that are now reading way out of the others (4 and 6)
Attachments
flow rate of 2240 rpm
flow rate of 2240 rpm
flow rate of 670 rpm
flow rate of 670 rpm

I swapped one out of the injectors (injector 6 with a spare I had) and swapped then swapped injector 2 and 6 and the smoking problem seemed to go away and the flow correction data seems to be a bit more reasonable.

Any data on what the pairing of the injectors are on a HDI ? Is it as simple as the injector firing order of (1 4) (2 5) ( 3 6)

Re high pressure pump, Diag is reporting measured 212 Bar (3000 psi) compared to reference of 220 bar (at idle 670 rpm) and measured 486 bar (7048 psi) compared to reference of 486 bar (eg the same) at 2112 rpm) so I assume pump is okay ??

Correct, the injection sequence of the DT17 engine is (1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 6).

I only have the actual Injection Pressure as follows:

Key

X: Injection pressure ( bar)
Y: Engine speed (rpm)

Thanks Marc

so the chart suggests at 2112 rpm I should have 1600 bar (23,206 psi) whereas Diag is saying I get to only 486 bar (7081 psi) yet the car feels like it is running okay.

I guess my readings are when stationary so I might try and get some when at speed.

Is my pairing of injectors correct (assume so but just checking :) )

cheers

I think you've got it upside down.... I would read the injector flow correction as what the ECU is having to do to smooth out the running; i.e. a low figure means that the injector is overfuelling so the ECU is cutting back the duration time to keep the volume down, and vice-versa.

Not sure what you mean by pairing of injectors?

I did some maintenance on my 407 2.7HDi V6 Diesel that involved taking out and cleaning the fuel injectors.
I didn't know they had to be in the same cylinder position so I randomly put them back.
Could this be why my car is now not starting with error codes related to the ECU not interfacing/communicating with the BCM.

Desperate for help.
