removing keypad immobiliser

Peugeot 306 1996 had problems with one of the numbers of the security code changed the code but now get both red & green leds on at the same time and now cannot start the car with the new code or old code although the unit beeped and flashed the green led after the 4th number entered

About 25 years ago when I had my business I bought a 306cabriolet for my wife. Long story all checked, the seller and the family did not know the key pad code. I got it very cheep. Sent the engine ECU to a specialist who reprogrammed it with out a key pad. Had the car for many years no issues.
