Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
Does anyone still follow the seasonal tradition of buying a box of dates.
I quite like them, but years since we have had a box of “eat me” .

Something we had for years throughout my childhood, hated them at first, grew to like them and now never buy them!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

The weighing machine.
Keen spotters will have noticed on Mick's post here the rather fetching Blue/White Weighing machine
This one has a really iconic shape and colour. Cant even remember where your public weighing machines were situated...big red one with a huge dial in Woolworths?, very probably public conveniences/railway stations and for some odd reason and there was one in our chemists, but when/where was the last time you saw one?

Does anyone remember the X ray machines in shoe shops to make sure your shoes fitted. They pretty well all had them in the early '50s at least. Used them many times but my feet haven't fallen off - yet.

But if you wear translucent footwear you can see where you are going by the glow from your feet!

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
I don't remember those but I see they were a thing. Maybe once they had gone I remember the likes of Clarks doing measurements of feet on a machine you put your foot on, maybe using lasers.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoe-fitting_fluoroscope
Of marginal interest to Hertfordshire members
Science Museum BlurbIn the UK, they were known as Pedoscopes, after the company based in St. Albans that manufactured them. An example can be seen at the Science Museum, London.
X-ray images were also utilised outside medicine. Between the 1920s and 1960s, for example, shoe-fitting fluoroscopes (also known as pedoscopes) could be found in many shoe shops. A child trying on new shoes would stand on the footpad of the machine while they, a parent and the sales assistant looked through viewing portholes at a continuous X-ray image. The fluorescent image would show the bones of the feet and an outline of the shoes to reveal how well they fitted.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
As a Hertfordshire member with marginal interest I can categorically say I have never heard of them and I have no memory of them in use in Tru-Form or Clark's shoeshops in Watford when I were a lad!! I was always measured with the solid platform equipped with side and toe sliders with engraved scales!!

Thanks. Perhaps it's me that should be in the science museum. Haven't noticed my feet glowing in the dark.

You wouldn't qualify Peter, to be in the Science Museum you have to be some sort of a relic!!
