I think I need DPF cleaned, some questions

Unread post by H4wkeye »

Since I've been getting random differential pressure sensor errors, we hooked it to diagnostics and it seems the DPF needs some good cleaning. The soot level is shown as 28% load and I have no DPF warnings but other two lines are shown as DPF load 300% and DPF ash content (or something like that) 100g. And status is shown as Blocked. I guess this means it's getting blocked by all the additive leftovers, ash and such stuff that got built up over time?

What's the procedure after the cleaning, you need to do something via diagnostic to have it "reset" right? Unfortunately I don't have access to Diagbox, but I do have Delphi and Autel, can you do the same with those?

The soot content will vary depending on each time the diagnostic is run as this is only a snapshot and the soot level will change once a regeneration has been completed.

Other readings are the amount of additive (in grammes) that has been put through the filter. The Cerine in the additive can't be burnt off so accumulates in the filter along with other deposits from the engine that ultimately block the filter.

If you are planning on deep cleaning the DPF, you will need to tell the engine ECU that you have replaced the filter so it starts recording the Cerine deposits from zero. I can't advise on the capabilities of your specific diagnostic equipment, but it should tell you whether this operation is supported or not.

Thanks Marc. I was fiddling with Autel and I think I found the option for it, it says DPF replacement something. I believe that's it.

Also where exactly is the DPF located on the car? Under the engine to the back?

I'd be amazed if Autel or Delphi Could'nt do it. There is no options for just cleaning the filter so yes just use the option to say you have replaced it.
On the 2.0 the DPF is located on the underside of the car kind of underneath where the dash board is, you cant really miss it.

Caution is advised when removing the DPF from the catalytic converter / DPF assembly. Be careful not to damage the filter itself.

Thanks guys. A friend that has a garage will remove it and take it to the cleaning service and back. I've never fiddled with it, so best leave it to them. But was just curious where it's located.
