Hello everyone.
I just bought a 2012 C5 X7, 2012 model year with a 2.2hdi(150kW) engine and auto transmission.
However, I do have a question regarding the transmission as I couldn't find any answers to my problem.
The main problem is, when the car is in drive and I start to accelerate lightly, the entire car jerks before the car starts moving.
Other than that, the car shifts with no problem.
The car has 226 000 km, but it had a new transmission at 130 000 km.
As far as I know, the oil hasn't been replaced since.
So is this just an inherent fault of these older transmissions (the "jerkiness") or could there be something else?
I would very much apprechiate any answers.
Thanks!

Re: Jerking auto transmission
The oil in these gearboxes (despite Citroen saying the boxes are sealed for life) does need changing to maintain the transmission. Dirty, burnt oil is full of contaminants and debris from the clutch packs, so essential to change it.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Re: Jerking auto transmission
If an oil change does not help and if the 'box is an Aisin, you my need to replace the valve block as these are known to cause a few issues.
It's not such a difficult job to do and can be done with the gearbox in place...
A search of the forum will bring up many posts about the valve block issues some of these gearboxes can suffer...

Thank you for your replies.
I'm assuming any of these two options requires Lexia diagnostic tool?
Thank you in advance

Yes, and a diagnostic may reveal useful fault codes...

Re: Jerking auto transmission
Unfortunately I am back with some bad news.
After removal of the air filter I realised the previous owner had been driving around without the upper oil plug (see attached picture).
That sent shivers down my spine as debree could be in there causing damage to the gearbox.
The owner no longer answers my calls so I have no way of knowing how long it has been like this.
I have temporarily plugged it with an M16 short bolt and copper washer for the mean time.
My dilemma is that I don't have Lexia at the moment and can't perform the oil change (correctly).
All the dealers are booked for the next 10 days and the cheapest one quoted me 550€ for the job.
Given the fact you can only replace about 3 litres of oil at once I was thinking of replacing only 3 liters for now WITHOUT LEXIA, until I get my Lexia (they are out of stock at the moment :/ ).
I would very much appreciate any input on this idea.

Re: Jerking auto transmission
I would really apprechiate any input on whether I could change gearbox oil without lexia?
I do intend on later giving the transmission full oil service, as I would only change those 3 odd liters of oil without lexia and see if it makes any difference.

Re: Jerking auto transmission
Your vehicle is diagnosed with the DIAGBOX (not the LEXIA).
WARNING : The automatic transmission must be drained when the oil is warm (at least 60°C) to remove the impurities from the oil. This can also be done without a diagnostic device. Drive approx. 5-10 km, then it is about right.
Please do not drive any further - a possible oil deficiency is the death of the gearbox.
NOTE : The draining is only partial because the torque converter cannot be drained completely.
Drive the vehicle onto a lifting platform or other device (pit) it only has to be horizontal.
Remove :
Air filter housing
The cap - it is missing.
The protective cover under the engine
Top filler plug; With a TORX socket - this is on the top and missing from your vehicle.
Oil overflow and drain plug at the bottom ; Using a hexagonal spanner.
NOTE : About 3 litres of oil must be drained. This is at the bottom and it is in two parts - and it just reads complicated.
3. filling
Install :
Oil overflow and drain plug - bottom (with a new gasket).
Filler plug -top ; With a TORX socket
WARNING : The oil type "AW-1" of the AT6 and AM6 gearboxes with Euro 5 engine is specially adjusted and must not be replaced by the oil type ""JWS 3309"".
Total oil capacity of the gearbox : 7 litres (approximate).
Oil type (red colour) :
Engine EURO 5 : Oil AW-1
Engine EURO 4 : Oil JWS 3309 ESSO - you probably have EURO 4 - only the right oil is important.
Quantity of oil remaining after draining : 4 litres (approximate).
Oil quantity to be filled : 3 litres (approximate).
Refit the plug - bottom - (with a new gasket).
Initialise the used oil counter (follow the procedure of the diagnostic device).
Can be done later - several partial oil changes at short intervals are also useful - or a professional gearbox oil flush.
However, it is important to restore the correct oil level first. 4.
4. checking the oil level
Conditions :
Vehicle in horizontal position
Check for emergency operation of the gearbox
Remove the plug -above-.
Add 0.5 litres of oil to the gearbox
Step on the brake, shift through all gears
Put selector lever in position "P
Engine revs in neutral
Oil temperature 60°C (+ 8 ; - 2 °C) (parameter measurement with a diagnostic device)
Remove the plug to correct the level - bottom.
4.1. oil jet, then drop by drop
Reinstall the plug to correct the level -bottom.
4.2. drop by drop or nothing
Refit the level adjustment plug .
Stop the engine.
Add 0.5 litres of oil to the gearbox.
Carry out the level correction procedure again.
NOTE : The level is correct when the oil jet turns into drops.
Refit the level correction plug - bottom - (with a new gasket).
4.3 Checking the oil level (continued)
Install :
Replace the cap - top - with a new gasket).
The air filter housing
The protective cover under the engine
Too high an oil level can cause the following :
Overheating of the oil
Oil loss
Too low an oil level will destroy the gearbox.
Greetings Wolfgang

Re: Jerking auto transmission
Thank you for the detailed description of the oil replacement.
However I'm unsure about oil. I think my car is Euro5 car.
If anyone can confirm which oil is cirrect this is the VIN (VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]).
I also must add that the gearbox has been changed for a new one about 100 000 kms ago.
I am adding the picture of the gearbox plate, just in case.
