citroen c3 picasso electrical fault on door mirrors/window

Unread post by stagman »

Hello this is my first post, hope you can help me with a problem that has bestowed my c3 picasso
basically the door mirrors are not folding together and sometimes they only move a little bit and then stop.
they do this using the remote to lock the car, or the switch on the armrest.
also the drivers window will usually not work although sometimes it will if i open door!
i have put code reader on it and its come up with

drivers door module u39de front right electric window upper or lower limit voltage not characterised
u39cd front right electric window again not characterised,
also folding mirrors not communicating with the LIN (no fault code came up)
i am thinking its possibly the harness that goes into the door from the a post
or this (drivers door module) wherever that is.
so far the only things i have done is disconnect the battery to reset bsi
and check fuses and look for any corrosion in fuse box, i cant see any.
so any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

cheers Wayne

Hi Wayne and Welcome.

Because you are having an issue with both the windows and the door mirrors I suspect it may be one of 2 things.

1) The driver's door armrest control panel (you can lift this out with some trim removal tools by wedging the clips to release it upwards). You can then check the wiring plugs are firmly inserted. They can work loose with all the door opening and closing over time. This happened to me on a new car!

2) The other possibility that comes to mind is the wiring loom as it enters from the side bulkhead through the driver's door. This is the weak area where the door hinges open. Despite there being a grommet covering the wires, these can bend, become weak and break. It could well be that you are getting intermittent operation as the wires make or break contact, so this would be the next place to check.

The module is seen here at (8)

... and from the underside once lifted out - you can see the various plugs I was referring to that can become loose.

Cheers Marc, thanks for reply, i will have a look at switch gear on armrest tonight (weather permitting)
think the harness might take me a little longer so might leave that till weekend to remove it and see if i can
find any breaks.

well i have checked connections on window/mirror control panel and they seem clean (no corrosion)
so i'll see if i can remove door harness and check each wire over weekend!

Well i have tried to disconnect door harness from door jamb, but i cant get the 2 connector blocks to poke though enough!
and if i did unplug them they might just drop into the door pillar, so is there a "knack" to removing the harness?
i.e. do i need to split harness from connector blocks from inside of car by removing some of the trim?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

cheers Wayne.

The harness clip / grommet should separate:

Well spent 4 hours on picasso yesterday and decided only way to remove harness is to unbolt door hinges
and slide door away from jamb exposing the connector blocks.
has i am 90% sure it is the harness i have ordered a new one, (I only want to do this once)
I'm away next week so wont get around to it till week after, but i'll let you know result.

cheers wayne.

NO worries, let us know the outcome won't you and make sure you order the correct harness, as there are different ones depending on equipment.

well i have finally got around to fitting the door harness! and am pleased to say window, mirrors, central locking are now ok.
i ended up disconecting all the wiring plugs in the door and then withdrawing harness out of the door, this then gave me enough
space to pull connector blocks out of A post, i put 2 cocktail sticks behind connector blocks to stop them disapearing, although
i'm sure you could retrieve them easily enough. had to re initalise window by lowering all way down then moved it upto top
then held on to switch for a second, and that sorted it! hope this may help others with similar symtoms
thanks marc for your assistance, it was one of your two suggestions, cheers.

I have just acquired a c3 picasso that has some similar issues, mirror folds in unneccesarily, interior courtesy lights inop but switch on manually, how much did the door wiring cost? please, my BXes and Xantias did not give me these issues, well maybe the BXes did rarely ;)
BXs since 1993 built 1.9 TZD turbo, got a S2 Xantia estate, brilliant car! 2013, Xantia HDI LX 110 2000 new car with 122,000, l C2 HDI Rusty rocket, C3 Picasso HDI new to me.
