How to remove rear view 'child mirror' - C4 Picasso (B78)

Unread post by danlat1415 »

Hello,

I've just had my windscreen replace by a glass company, and I've noticed that they hadn't put the rear view mirror or little rear seat view mirror trim back correctly on the windscreen.
The plastic trim around the small rear seat view mirror rattles like it's not clipped in place correctly.

Rather than take it back and have them try and figure it out, I was hoping to sort it myself, as I need to rewire my dash cam back in and put the camera on the windscreen.

Does anyone know how the rear view mirror/rain sensor section is removed from the windscreen? So I can work out how it should click back on correctly.

My VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Here you go:
dan mirror.PNG
Detach the half-shell (1) (at "a") using trim removal tools.

Detach then remove:
The half-shroud (1)
The half-shroud (2)
dan mirror b.PNG
This will expose the sunlight / rain sensor - but don't remove this again as it can become opaque causing loss of functionality / performance!

Thanks very much.

Do you have the same instructions for the tiny mirror (optional extra) just above that?

It's the part just popping its head out on your first picture in the top right corner.

I think it's called a 'child mirror' (trim part - 98052612 BJ or 8143 RS, and mirror part - 8153 AQ)

It's actually that part which hasn't been put back correctly and is rattling around.

It may be under the instructions for removing the sun visor trim (98018898 BJ), as the 'child mirror' is an extension from that down onto the windscreen, which then extends down further to the rear view mirror.

You just use a trim tool to release the clips shown at 'a' in order to release the child mirror. The unit holding it in is called the sun visor module. It's possible knowing windscreen fitters, they may have broken off a clip when removing it and if this is the case, get them to provide a new one - they have insurance for this kind of thing. I got mine to cough up for a new sensor Rain / sunlight sensor at £260 after having my C5 windscreen replaced which ruined the performance as the sensor gel went opaque. They'll argue with you but don't take no for answer if this is the case.

The child mirror is part 8153AQ and is £36.25 from Citroen in case it is this.

It rattles and I suspect they have not put the retaining screw back in, shown as number 72 in this parts diagram.
The whole mount moves around from the window, not just the cover section.

I wanted to know how to remove the child mirror and trim to be able to check

In that case you are looking at removing the rood console to release the other parts on the windscreen. Best if I put a full guide up in the members' section. Check back here in 20 minutes and I'll leave a link for you when I've completed it.

Thank you very much.
That seems to cover off everything I'll need to hopefully get it secured myself.

Thanks for your help.
I've managed to sort this, this morning.

I stripped the top trim back, and found that the windscreen company had put the top section to the window with the screw in it, but appear to have completely forgot the screw it at all, so it was fully loose.
A quick screw with a torx bit and it secured to the window.
All sorted.

Well done!
It was looking like a nightmare. I would have clagged it with clear silicone.

I had some cowb... Um, windscreen clow.. Person jump in my car and went to force the folded electric exterior mirror (these were the ones you opened/closed with a button rather than automatically) back open  Then, they ripped the interior mirror off and told my insurance company that it was damaged when the stone hit the screen

Now, I "advise" them of anything and ask to watch as an interested party as I haven't seen the procedure before. I can "help" them if they happen upon something above their pay grade.

Speaking of pay grade, am FURIOUS with a certain delivery company formerly know as (sounds like herpes).... I ordered a 3 ton pneumatic jack and somehow it "got lost" during transit. Oh did it now    So if anyone here is offered a red Vevor pneumatic, tell them big Doo is coming to fetch his property.

Sorry for the rant, it just bugs me that when you hire a "professional", a moron turns up ](*,)
Has anyone seen the plot? :?

I've just recently purchased my Citroen and need to install my dash cam. I can't access this link. Could the link be shared with me to allow me to run the wire behind the trim please?

Also, any suggestions on which fuses are best placed for the hardwiring? I believe F29 and F32 would work for the VCC and ACC respectively? - any issues with removing the radio/telematic fuse I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance for your help.
