407 wagon / estate rear fog lights

Unread post by 407 »

I've a new dash warning saying my foglights are faulty.

The front ones work okay (eg when turned on with the LHS stalk)

Diag says it the rear RH one code A4C9, so I assume the one of the tail gate ones either side of the number plate

More worrying it says the fault is "short circuit to positive"

How exactly do you turn them on to test ? or do they just work when you go into reverse ?

Foglights should be lit all the time they are selected, there should be a tell-tale on the dash for the rears, as with the front.
Reversing lights are only lit when reverse gear is selected. Have an assistant check, or park in reverse near a white/light surface - a white garage door is ideal, and you can see in your mirror when the rear foglights and reversing lights are on, and even if one lights and the other doesn't.

Thanks

when you say "selected", as in how ? Do they turn on automatically when the lights are on or do you turn them on like the front ones (and if so, using what switch) ?

As this time both are out / now working despite what Diag says

cheers

Thanks Marc - will give it a test and see what happens

ps - I suspect the PSA owners manual link sticky no longer works (at least for me) - I even have a login to Service Box and when I try and get Handbook, it says site can't be reached - the rest of the site seems to work okay

See my thread here with link and try that one. Unfortunately this model's year doesn't allow a full download, it ridiculously only allows the download of a small few pages at a time in each section - and then misses out some parts.

Anyway try the link in this thread. You'll need the 01/09/2004 to 31/01/2005 version as your build date was 22 September 2004.

Thanks Marc

The good news on the rear fog lights is that I now know how to turn them on and they both work.

The bad news is that the car still thinks there is a fog light error as does Diag.

The last thing I did was pull the air cleaner out to change the auto transmission fluid, so will check if I have disturbed any wiring / connectors.

Any other hints ?

cheers
