Fault codes

Unread post by Jedders »

Hi everyone,
Can anybody enlighten me on what these codes actually mean?
P2566, P2562, P1496, P11AA, P1497.
There is a brief description for two of them.
P2566 Turbo position copy signal blocked when engine switched off.
P2562 Turbo copy signal difference between setting and position exceeding min or max limit.
The other codes ,
Refer to vehicle service manual.
All of them are referred to as temporary faults.
This maybe to do with the Engine Fault repair warning coming on around 3200rpm?

Pop your VIN up so we can relate the codes specifically to the vehicle.

Ok, so a C5 XC7 with the 2.0 DW10CTED4 163 engine. Here are the fault descriptors for you as they relate to this engine.
Fault Code: P2566
Description of Fault: Variable geometry turbocharger : Excessive drift on the last initialisations of the upper stop. Drift less than -0,5 V or greater than 0,5 V in the initialisation of the variable geometry turbocharger upper limit relative to the first initialisation.
Drift less than -0,3 V or greater than 0,3 V in the initialisation of the variable geometry turbocharger upper limit, relative to the last initialisation the previous time the network (powerlatch) went to sleep. The fault is triggered just after the initialisation of the upper stop.
The fault immediately appears
Conditions for Fault to clear: 3 successive starts, allowing time for the network to go to sleep (Power latch).
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: None Identified
Symptoms:
  • Lack of power
  • No effects immediately perceptible to the customer
Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharger: The variable geometry of the turbocharger is locked
  • Turbocharger electrovalve
  • Position indicator of the turbocharger
  • Electrical harnesses
  • Vacuum circuit

Fault Code: P2562
Description of Fault: Variable geometry turbocharger : Position incorrect in relation to the requirement ; Not enough turbocharging. The position measured is greater than the reference by more than 40 % for 6 seconds. Fault is triggered when the engine is running.
Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving with the engine hot for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Deactivation of the EGR function
Symptoms:
  • Noise
  • Smoke from the exhaust
  • Lack of power
  • Loss of braking
Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharger: Variable geometry open
  • Turbocharger solenoid valve
  • Position indicator of the turbocharger
  • Electrical harness
  • Vacuum circuit

Fault Code: P1496
Description of Fault: Variable geometry turbocharger : Position incorrect in relation to the requirement (Too much turbocharging pressure). The position measured is less than the reference by more than 30 % for 5 seconds. The fault is triggered after the engine has been running for at least 6s.
Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving with the engine hot for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
Symptoms: None
  • Noise
  • Diesel fuel consumption a bit higher
Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharger: Variable geometry closed
  • Turbocharger solenoid valve: Failure of the solenoid valve ; Electrical harness
  • Position indicator of the turbocharger: Electrical harness
  • Vacuum circuit: Blockage

Fault Code: P11AA
Description of Fault: Air circuit: Maximum turbo pressure exceeded. Incoherence between the position of the turbocharger electrovalve measured and the turbo air pressure measured, detected by the turbo pressure being above 3 bars for 1,5 seconds. Fault is triggered when the engine is running (Mixer copy less than 50%).
Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving with engine hot for 5 minutes with several accelerations under full load.
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation of the request for regeneration of the particle filter from the diagnostic tool
  • Deactivation of the pilot and post-injection injections
  • Deactivation of the EGR function
  • Cutting of the exhaust heat saver function
  • Prohibition of forced regeneration of the particle emission filter
  • Prohibition of the combustion mode that encourages regeneration
  • Deactivation of the kick-down for automatic gearboxes
  • Limitation of performance
  • Request for emergency closing of the turbo air cooler by-pass unit
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle cruise control (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Deactivation of the tight spot for the cruise control
Symptoms:
  • Noise
  • Diesel fuel consumption a bit higher
  • Lack of power
Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharging pressure sensor: Sensor drift ; Electrical harness
  • turbocharger: Variable geometry seized
  • Turbocharger solenoid valve: Failure of the solenoid valve ; Electrical harness
  • Turbocharger position copy: Sensor fault ; Electrical harness
  • Vacuum circuit: Plug

Fault Code: P1497
Description of Fault: Variable geometry turbocharger : Position incorrect in relation to the requirement - Not enough turbocharging. The position measured is greater than the reference by more than 30 % for 6 seconds. The fault is triggered when the engine has been running for at least 6s.
Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving with the engine hot for 5 minutes.
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: None
Symptoms:
  • Noise
  • Smoke from the exhaust
  • Lack of power
  • Loss of braking
Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharger: Variable geometry open
  • Turbocharger solenoid valve: Failure of the solenoid valve ; Electrical harness
  • Position indicator of the turbocharger: Electrical harness
  • Vacuum circuit leak

Sounds bad?.
Turbo charger failing or vacuum valve?
Any ideas, anybody else experienced similar issues

I'd certainly be looking at the solenoid first before anything else.

Ok thanks for the advice. Car is in for a new fly wheel for a couple of days. I'll speak with the mechanic when I pick it up tomorrow.

Hi, Jedders. Any update to your issues?

I've P1497 P2566 also.

Thanks.

It turned out to be a blanking cap missing from the vacuum system. So once that was fixed. Problem was solved.

I think I need to start again and check my entire vac system too. Thanks.

Was that before or after the flywheel was fitted? :rofl2:

Yeah that was another story, had a new clutch and flywheel and it felt like the car was on a fast spin cycle! Replaced and like silk now :-D
