Can't Read Alphanumeric Injector Code

Post by Doo »

:(

Two of the injectors are scratched in such a way that I can't read the code so I can't reprogramme them.

One of them is an original, one of them is a recon.

Engine starts & Idles like a nodding donkey. Try to drive it and you can hear/feel it running on 3 until around 3500rpm, after which it will smoothly run on four.

As it turned out, I accidentally put one of the original injectors in the wrong cylinder, so I swapped them. Then it idled better, but drove like a tin of spanners (it doesn't help a bearing must have been slightly bad when parked up and now sounds like a bass speaker at 11 #-o ).

I was informed I don't have to programme the injectors, but one of them is clearly unhappy. I conducted a leak off test and its an original (which I had in the wrong cylinder) that is returning twice as much diesel.

So that's the info to date, but here's the real problem. As per subject box, two of them are scratched and I cannot read their code. So I cannot use the DiagBox injection coding program.

I know the two original injectors belong in cylinders 2 & 3, with the recon units in 1 & 4 respectively.

I pulled them back out and found oil had dribbled down the sleeves (but can't get past the copper washers) so I also think I have ommited to replace the seals for the injector sleeves  That's a straightforward fix, if a bit of a faff. But I set them up on the bench to try and take photos & zoom in, to no avail. I just cannot make out the codes.

Any tips on how I can find the numbers using DiagBox? Or should I just go sit in the fridge 8-[

Thanks. A fed up Doo...

What vehicle are we talking about? I can't tell from your profile list - it might be better to keep your current French cars on your profile list at the top. Pop the VIN up for the relevant vehicle and I can see what the status is regarding injector coding or not.

Ha! You're right. I waltzed into the trap of "They know I'm on about the C4!" Apologies

2007 C4 1.6hdi SX piloted box.

Thanks Marc

You should have Bosch injectors on this vehicle so an 8 character code shown at 'D': This is the classification, which I believe is different to the code, so as long as you have the right classification you should be fine on these.

It is Bosch. But the plastic covers have been scratched badly enough to make the numbers unreadable.

I just wondered if there was a workaround? Thank you.

EDIT. I just re-read your message. Are you saying they don't need coded?

One injector is leaking off twice as much as the others, so I take it that's it may be needing replacing then?

Yes, some early injectors don't use coding and some like Bosch, Siemens use just a single classification number for all the injectors. That's what I mean by 'classification' and if this is the case then the same 'class'
(i.e. class 5 or class 6) injector is used - so the class is the same for injectors 1-4. If the class of injector is changed, then the ECU must be notified of the new class. For these, the codes are the same and not unique unlike the injectors with a different code for each injector.

So I can't help you as like you, I won't know what is on your injectors.

But yes, if they as bad as they sound it looks like time to replace them, in which case you will have the codes on the replacements (or classification) depending on the actual injector part number.

Excellent.

OK, it looks like I will be sending this one to Darwen Diesels tomorrow. They have an excellent turnaround time so I can see the end in sight....

Thank you.

So if it is a code on the replacement injector then you will have that, so can just code it and leave the others as they are. If it’s just a classification number then it must match the class of the existing ones.

I bought two recon injectors already, one of which the AN code is also scratched. However, they suggested they do not need programmed. You have confirmed my query as to whether or not they needed programmed. They were replaced like for like.

Thank you for all your help. 8-)
