C5 X7 LDS level

Hi ,
I wanted to check the LDS level of the suspension so I connected my Lexia and depressurised the system(after lowering the suspension to the lowest position) and when I removed the cap a lot of fluid started to leak. After removing enogh fluid so that the level is between "a" and "b" I drove the car and the suspension is a lot stiffer now.I read other threads, but there wasn't any concrete answer. Should the level be checked at lowest position or lowest position and depressurised?

Also I forgot to disconnect the battery as it said in Diagbox. Is this a problem?

Both ways to check should be valid. You probably need to bleed the air out of the system, it's why the suspension is stiffer. I believe GiveMeABreak detailed how to do it in this post:

1) The LDS suspension fluid level must be checked with the car on the lowest setting. Although recommended, you can do this without depressurising the system, as there is an allowance. In your case the system has been over-filled.

2) The procedure you are referring to is for specific operations on the hydraulic system, where you do not want the pump engaging whilst undertaking work, hence why the battery needs to be disconnected. It is not required for checking and topping up the fluid levels.

I had the LDS fluid changed at a Citroen service a couple months ago. Is it possible they filled it at the lowest setting without depressurisation so that's why it overflowed when I depressurised it?

Not really, It won't be unheard of for inexperienced technicians (on the X7) to not understand the requirements!

I have done both and never had mine overflow, but I always topped it up on lowest setting only without depressurising it. I only depressurised it for service jobs. Bleeding and topping up can be done without depressurising.

As said when I depressurised the system, I never had any fluid overflow.

It is not unheard of for manufacturer apprentices to be given simple tasks for them to do (so as to 'learn the ropes'), but not be clearly advised on the tasks. I have heard of cases where Mazda apprentices have been asked to perform an oil and filter change, only to then have the car come back in with major problems. This was because the wrong oil has been used on the RX series, which have the Wankel rotary engines (and these need a very different oil from normal engines), but the apprentice has used 'normal' oil.
