508 EGS6 gearbox and steering fluid

Post by Zn1 »

Hey guys i have 508 1.6 ehdi 82kw with EGS6 automatic gearbox, mechanics at my city replaced last year gearbox oil but they put in total ATF fluid in it.... As i can tell by searching oil for this gearbox is Total Gear8, also they put in total DA fluid for servo and again as i found out right one is total D/G3, im loosing servo oil but there is no big visible place only on steering rack boot. My question is:
1- When i change ATF fluid for Gear8 do i need to change in magneti marelli actuator too or they share same oil? If they dont share what oil goes to actuator?
2- Where is most common place to leak servo fluid, for now i think it is in steering rack bearing seal.
3- How to remove oil from whole steering system, mainly steering rack?
also how much gearbox oil do i need i found 2 specs 1.9-2.0L and 2.1-2.2L

An EGS is a piloted manual gearbox, not a proper automatic that has a torque converter!

Can you confirm what it is you have or put your VIN up and I'll tell you. Either way ATF does not go in piloted manual gearbox, so I'd give that garage a wide berth next time if they don't know that.

Hi Marc, yes im sure its automatic manual gearbox EGS6 for sure, yes they dont know what they were doing thats why i dont go to mechanics anymore, i found in parts shop by my car ID that oil for servo is D3/G3 and oil for gearbox is Total Gear8 its like 75w80 if i remember, as i can tell actuator uses different fluid but im not sure about opinions it says that u need special oil from manufacturer wich is 40$ for 1l or u can use ATF dextron 3 as alternative but someone says he had problem with dextron3 so he used gha-f idk im confused

At the end of the day it's a 6 speed piloted manual gearbox.

Now here's the tricky bit. According to my info, you have to remove the actual piloting actuator to replace the piloting actuator hydraulic reservoir oil! That's a bit of a nightmare job to do....

The system has to be depressurised by following the guided operation in Diagbox: "Draining of the gearbox piloting actuator oil". This returns all the hydraulic oil from the electrohydraulic actuator unit and the pressure accumulator to the piloted actuator hydraulic reservoir.

The only info I have on the oil is:

SELENIA oil
TUTELA CAR CS SPEED
SAE 75W (Part number 9979.A4)

I found your guide with diagnostic tool but i think i will pull out old fluid from reservoir with syringe and put fresh fluid in and then change it once again in short period or maybe 2 more times to get pass that, i hope i can find this oil at my parts store, i will write tomorrow what they suggest and which oil is suitable

Or just go to Peugeot and order it from them to be sure. It's not cheap because it's a specialist oil.

Peugeot service charges you for Hello 10$ here, update, oil change in gearbox was fast and easy.
Remove draining bolt and drain old oil.
Then remove intake tube and open cap so it drains completly.
Put in new oil, total gear8 75w80, 1.9 lit.
You need special tool for screw on bottom it is 7mm or 8mm square, i made it from unior hex key 10mm, just ued angle grinder till it fits.
