Thanks, Richard and...ouch. Yeah, time to visit the scrapyard for sure now.

Out of curiousity, while not a PN request, would you be able to confirm a basic spec for me from the Citroen manual? I need to confirm the official engine oil capacity. From filling manually, I believe that it's 3.75 liters but the manual doesn't say and my Haynes/RTA manual says 5.5 liters (with filter). I'd like to have something "official" when I reach out to Haynes/RTA.

First pic is what the manual shows (my motor in blue and oil capacity in red). All previous pages show 11 different types of motors, all with 3.75 liters. Only the page with my motor shows nothing.
Second page is cover for my online Haynes/RTA manual/MTA.
Third page is what that manual shows for engine oil capacity, with and without new filter.

Nothing 'official', but having just changed the oil in our BlueHDI 120 I can confirm it's 3.75 litres or thereabouts - 3.5 litres took it up to about 3/4 which is what I normally add. Glad I haven't got a 2.0 - 6.1 litres of oil!! The price was bad enough for 5 litres and I get 3 changes out of 10 litres.

Hi Mark,

Are you referring to the transmission oil? I meant to refer to the engine oil - sorry if I wasn't clear.

I completely drained the oil and then slowly refilled and it hit right at about 3.75 liters. I further searched through the Haynes/RTA website and I believe they are showing the oil capacity for an older model 2.0 HDi 136 16v. In any case, I'm 100% that it's a Haynes/RTA error but am hoping to find something more accurate than my refill/measure before I go back to them. After driving around with the overfilled oil, I now have an oil filter leak that I'm troubleshooting and hoping it's not something more serious. Tomorrow, I will examine the oil filter cover and maybe even order a new one and new filter with gasket to rule those out.

Anyway, I know this is probably off topic so maybe I'll just create a new thread instead. I only posted here hoping that you might be able to find the specs from the PSA Public Service Box. I actually tried searching myself using my old private account but couldn't find where that info was to determine if it would be worth paying the 10 EUR or so.

Jim.

I already moved the topic to a new thread - so no problem, carry on the discussion here.

I just looked at a ML6C for a DV6C box - so unless they have updated or changed the box I can't say. But of course drained quantity is far less than the actual capacity for say a new gearbox without oil... so be careful not to over-fill it.

Edit: Redundant last paragraph.

GiveMeABreak wrote: 12 Jun 2022, 22:23 For the ML6C Gearbox fitted to your car, the capacity after draining as in an oil change is 1.9 litres. So not sure if Richard has the exact same gearbox.... so unless this is a different version of the gearbox?
The query is about the oil capacity of an engine not a gearbox, isn't it?

Hi Paul,

Yep - asking about engine oil capacity and not gearbox/transmission.

I don't know what planet I was on, but I am multi-tasking on a few rigs at present...

Let me re-check for you...

Oil capacity without exchanging the filter cartridge: 3.25 Lt

Oil capacity with exchange of the filter cartridge: 3.75 Lt

Capacity between minimum and maximum of the oil dipstick: 1.5Lt

Ha, ha...no worries. Your help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

So, it's good to have confirmation. Now, to finish troubleshooting. Hopefully, it's just the filter cover or gasket and not the housing. If it ends up being the housing...I'll start another thread. :-)

Well, I examined the filter, filter cover, and filter housing and nothing stands out to me as a possible source. So, I ordered new filter w/ gasket and filter cover. Hopefully, this resolves it.

When you took the oil filter out was the large O-ring green in colour? Did you replace this O-ring? Was the replacement also green or was it black?

It was a nice, shiny black. In fact, it was only about a month and a half old and looked it since it came with the new filter. The incoming replacement is the same filter/gasket so it will likely look exactly the same. For sure, I will compare more closely than I did the last time but it looked the same as the old gasket except new. The filter and gasket arrive tomorrow and the cover hopefully the day after.

I'm surprised that you had black O-rings rather than green ones as I thought all BlueHdi engines were Euro 6 and had the later, thicker cross section, green O-rings. As I found out on our 308, fitting the early Black O-ring allows oil to leak out.

Marc, can you check from the VIN (if you have it) which O-ring should be fitted?

The previous filter, fitted by the Citroen dealer prior to warranty expiration, was the same as mine: black, square ring versus a green, tubular ring. I remember someone mentioning that there had been a change at some point although I can't remember the details. In any case, my filter is a MANN-FILTER HU 716/2 x which their site (MANN-FILTER's) confirms as fitting this motor. Additionally, when I check for filters on Autodoc, it shows the same type of gasket with this filter (black, square ring).

To be honest, when I first saw the gasket with the new filter, I actually inspected the old one carefully because I had expected a tubular ring versus a square ring. I was worried that the square ring would be too flush with the side and possibly allow oil to pass by/leak. But, square ring was what the Citroen dealer fitted and it had been working fine so...
