This will save you digging them out Gibbo some nice pics appropriate for this thread today, from POTD when you had fallen out of love with Gloucester :-D
Gibbo2286 wrote: 18 Aug 2020, 19:04 Had a change today, gave the thieving b£$%^ds in Gloucester a miss and went to Hereford instead, a much nicer place. :)

A few photos, an old pile and a newer pile, a double post box, free bike for hire and a load of bull.

Herefordshire's two Vehicle Registration Area code letters are...

CJ and VJ

Reggie Perrin's Boss CJ may well have had CJ1, but a series of nostalgic youtube vids of Hereford has produced these examples. More VJ's but one CJ on the smaller tractor in the parade doing the important job of transporting the Hereford May Fair Queen in 1963. :-D

I missed Rutland yesterday...

My Dad was brought up in Corby, in neighbouring Northants. He has a cert somewhere to show that in the mid 60's as a teenageer he walked all the way round (80miles perhaps?) in under 24 hours.

I'm sure many remember this infamous dress but what does it have to do with Herefordshire?

I am quite sure a lot of viewers of this thread will have at sometime set foot or wheels in Herefordshire or have some association to report with the County. The names of Ronnie Radford and Ricky George surely create annual embarrassment for the black and white half of us in the North-East for one :-D

It would be nice if some viewers turned into posters. As ever just join-in.

I will have a go at your question Mick shortly, and thanks for your contributions making this thread an extremely enjoyable and educational one for me. Hope others find it the same.

To keep the kettle boiling another couple of holiday snaps.

Only one drink in Herefordshire when you talk of local produce...Cider.

This article from the Hereford Times...lists 10 of Herefordshire's finest ciders

10 of Herefordshire's finest ciders

Has the article any credibility...it lists Heineken first....well Strongbow, Bulmers to be precise the Heineken subsidiary brand, but apparently Herefordshire is still where the apples are grown and pressed. I'm no great cider connaisseur
but a volume produced cider for the masses available everywhere in the country has got to have a fair chance of being bland and inoffensive and hardly a classic taste. Described by one of the commenter thus
Strongbow? It might have a well-known name but that doesn't make it one of Herefordshire's finest - it's a mass-market chemical catalyst fermented toxin tasting vaguely of apples.
I'm going for
Original Dry Cider, Gwatkin
With its deep, full flavour, Gwatkin’s original dry cider recently won the Mitchell Award in The Three Counties International CIder and Perry competition for their 5% cider.
The company said at the time that it proves there is demand for cider made from freshly-pressed apples and not from concentrate.
The Original Blend Cider has been made on the Gwatkin family farm in Abbey Dore for almost 30 years and is available to buy from their farm shop.

The thread will be moved on imminently, but not before some music from Herefordshire gets an airing.
I wasn't sure where Elgar was born, and it was round about the county in the spotlight, but actually in neighbouring Worcestershire. Part of Elgar's bio on wiki mentions the Three Choirs Festival, which is alternately held in Hereford Worcester and Gloucester Cathedrals.

So that where the music will come from, if youtube can come up with the goods from the Three Choirs festival when held here. Back shortly.

Back to as original as it gets.

Kicks off with a bit of Elgar, but more than that this is the first ever recording of the Three Choirs Festival by "His Master's Voice and that's the hardware outside Hereford Cathedral in 1927 in the picture.

Just taking the time to have a listen to that recording. Very impressed with the history of the Three Choirs Festival over 300 years and in 2022 guess who's turn it is...yes Hereford Cathedral July 23rd to July 30th
