What causes this?
https://flic.kr/p/2neB8qq
I had the CV boot changed a few weeks ago, didn't drive it since, jacked it up today to change the bushing and saw the leak.
The outside sleeve looks pushed up, is this fixable or is it new strut time?
Also is something bent which could have caused it to push up?

Re: C5 X7 front strut messed up?
New strut time.
The boots are bonded. It looks like the boot has been caught and ripped off the strut either as a result of damage from the previous work or may be unrelated - hard to say. If the boot has been caught and pulled off, it may have damaged the strut - or the strut has developed a leak and has hastened the boot's departure. These are not repairable and requires a new strut to be fitted.

Thanks a million for that, now I don't feel that bad, I was annoyed because I thought the guys who did the CV boot messed it up, but if it's possible for it to fail like that, then that's my fault for buying a C5 X7 with badly designed shocks and a bound to fail steering rack.GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑15 Apr 2022, 12:47 New strut time.

You may be able to get a cheaper one from Poland / Europe, and have the local dealer fit-only. That's what I did, as is was over £120 cheaper to source the genuine part from Europe and that included delivery. The tank needs draining so will need 4-5 bottles of LDS when refilling approximately.

Re: C5 X7 front strut messed up?
To de-pressurise the front suspension manually, I need to use the nipple on the driver side strut? The passenger side doesn't have one?
why?

Re: C5 X7 front strut messed up?
Yes, it depressurises the front suspension only, fit a plastic pipe over the nipple to catch the fluid as it drains out. I used a 1/4" Deep Socket (10mm I think)to crack the seal and then a spanner to open it a little further.
Have the car supported prior to opening the nipple DON'T go under the car until suspension is in lowest position.
