Quite right Gibbo, as I mentioned in the original cricket ground post above, Joel Garner was also playing for Somerset and Clive Lloyd for Lancashire on the day in question although not Ian Botham it would seem from the scorecard I have now posted on the Trivia Investigation Thread! :-D

Citrojim has posted many posts of his home county of Somerset over the years, would fill page after page of Somerset in the Spotlight.

Topical for now in the fuel prices thread, or indeed the garages gallery. I like an old garage, with a relic of a fuel pump stuck in old money...
CitroJim wrote: 13 Jun 2016, 16:52 Speaking of pavement garages, in my childhood home town of Langport there's this pump in the wall..
Long disused, even when I was a kid it was derelict. As of last week it's still there and you can just see the faded price per gallon from when it was last in service... 5/6 I believe, that's five shillings and sixpence in old money! So it was well before 1971 it went out of use.. I can never remember it in use...

Somerset is the home of the Haynes Motor Museum familiar to many. In a doubly appropriate post here's an Austin somerset they renovated for a trip around Somerset.

Porlock hill has featured in the pages of the FCF thread's many times. There is a particularly nice painting in the transport art genre of the sort I like by Mike Jefferies, of a lorry ascending Porlock Hill covered in this post.
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 30 Dec 2018, 21:31 I have really enjoyed my new "Roadscapes II" book with Alan Spilletts lorry paintings in, and its led on to me discovering Mike Jeffries whose breath and scope of work is just stunning.

This one here has special interest for both Somersetians and Cornwallians. I don't have to tell you what hill the lorry is ascending surely. The lorry is one of a hundred or so of that marque put together in Cornwall. It is appropriately a Rowe Hillmaster in the livery of Arthur R Duckett Highbridge Somerset.

You may make an ARS of Bare Ash, but couldn't spot anything obvious Mick.

Meanwhile here's Somerset's oddest fingerpost

Not wanting this to drag on I will give you half the answer! If your intended recipient lived in the west of the county you would not want to have your letter delivered up in the north!! :-D

Is this going to be a Mick groan special, or am I just not getting your drift on the clue, or maybe my urban dictionary isn't quite on the ball! Just need the answer for that one Mick!

Don't think it would qualify for a groan! If you wanted to send a letter to someone in Winsford (just north of Dulverton), missing out the s could easily get it delivered to Winford (just west of Bath!!) :-D

Good that clears it up simpler than I thought!

There is quite a bundle of things which the FCF has covered on Somerset just a couple from Jim

Well that's one of those random connections I love :) looks like there are five to choose from in the collection, but an educated guess would have to be this one...

Jim spotted this when out and about

Apparently out of 30,000 original AA Village Signs, only 65 exist in situ.

I remember when stationed at Norton Manor a couple of us hitch hiked to Minehead for the day, on the last lap back to camp we were picked up  by the C O and his wife in a Sunbeam Talbot 90.
