Not the height of cool recommending an Antiques Roadshow video, but today's County in the spotlight is Sutherland, and as well as being from Dunrobin Castle nr Golspie the ancestral and current pile of the Duke of Sutherland, there is also Michael Aspel doing the intros. Worth a watch of the first few minutes for that alone, and the personal station built by the Duke of Sutherland at the Castle.

and another Sutherland offering

The Space Hub in animation, but as Dobie Gray once sang "if you can do with your imagination, you can do it in real life"

A very random short video for a wonderfully French sightseeing bus based on a Citroen truck. They don't make them like that anymore.... with good reason

Goes on too long to watch the lot, but I did chuckle at this little section. BMW and Audi drivers could learn a lot from this bloke in his Jag in 1963...
I've got a Rapier up ahead
I'm keeping a lot of distance between us
because we're travelling at about 55
I should let him pass that lorry
before I attempt to close up to overtake him
just keep on my lane, check the mirror,
nothing behind that wants to overtake
and now I shall start to close up

and first of all signalling with my headlights
and again, he hasn't a clue that I'm here
so I shall sound the horn (loud sustained horn press)
and again (loud sustained horn press and two extra shorter ones)

Yes he's pulling in, and I can go past
and he's giving me the "V" sign
I cant think why he should think that
I'm interested in his politics

Starts at the start of the script! There are other gems of phraseology from Mr Jag throughout!

1970's heading Southwest with the "grockles". Attenborough-Esque presentation of the phenomenon.

I've just heard about Dennis Waterman who left us today. He died at home in Spain so thanks for all the entertainment you gave me over the years Dennis!

Most of Newmarket is outside of todays county in the spotlight, and we have already done Suffolk.

This is a totally engaging video with Sir Mark Prescott who has a nice presentation style and a clear love of the town and horse racing. I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a bit about the training and the various training gallops in and around the town. Also learned the derivation of "On your Tod" which I never knew.

While researching Derbyshire music for the County in the Spotlight thread I came across this video demonstrating how Delia Derbyshire created the Dr Who theme. Although I was previously aware of the reality I stil gave it a watch out of curiosity and decided it might interest a few other members so worth posting here!! :-D

There are a few who appreciate the humour of Gerald Hoffnung and he's had more than one outing with that sketch. Chris (White-exec) suggested it when the Pickled Egg jukebox went for a theme of "mildy amusing songs"...not that its a song, but roughly on topic. In the interests of participation I may well re-attempt the 10 Mildly amusing songs theme for a new audience.

Meanwhile on a random delve into my own archives, this would be well and truly lost had it not been for the random hand today, from 2014, an informative video useful fo those moments when there's nowt on the telly.

I came across this video which I found interesting because of the obvious technical expertise used in producing it:

Of interest to.... oooh, at least 3 of you  the BBC has launched its 'Rewind' website which contains news footage, clips, and oddments from fairly recent to way back when Gibbo was a lad :-D
The map search can be quite a good way to find films from nearby but it is a little flakey in that not all the clips are from where they're purported to be from.
