Hi!
My Xantia is leaking a lot of LHM on the shaft of the LHM-pump. I talked about it with a garage specialising in old Citroens and the guy told me that I couldn't get any seals or a rebuild kit or anything because it was impossible to fix the pump myself (I needed a dustfree room). He gave me contact information of someone selling refurbished pumps. Before I went to him I also found this topic viewtopic.php?t=47089 and a couple of guys on a Dutch Facebook group told me I could just replace some seals.
Normally I would have just bought the refurbished pump but it costs the same amount of money I paid for the car in the first place and that hurts. So can I just replace them myself?

There are 2 main types of pump fitted to Xantia. If yours is 1993, it probably has the early 7 piston pump. You can see a rebuild of one of those at https://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21858.

Ok, so I could most likely take the pump apart and put it back together with new O-rings. But now I'm not sure if that's useful because the guy on the BX forum also resurfaces the bearing and I have no way of doing that.

Re: Xantia - Fixing a leaking LHM pump
The Xantia never used the BX type pump. It's a 5 piston BX pump in the link (also used on later CXs and early XMs with a plastic housing) Early Xantias have the same radial pump that was used later except with a single pressure output. Later Xantias have two outputs: one a 6 piston radial pump out and a second 2 piston pump. These feed the PAS and hydraulic accumulator respectively. It's basically a pump with two separate pumps inside it. The whole thing has three long bolts that mount the pulley flange through the pump body. If removed, the pulley and its flange can be removed. I am also hoping to rebuild mine and swap the pulley and flange with that of a spare old Xantia pump as mine is also oozing LHM

Re: Xantia - Fixing a leaking LHM pump
if the shaft side is leaking then its the bearing seal at the pulley side. I replace this before together with all the piston seal.Standard Viton o ring for all 7 piston . Just google for size as I can,t remember. The bearing seal you have to remove and bring to the Shop that sells seals and bearing. Make sure the shaft side that interface with the seal is not corroded otherwise it will leak again. For the normal pistons just replace the o ring as the pistons n bore hardly wears. Another thing is the pump could be cracked so you have to check properly before refurbishing.

Re: Xantia - Fixing a leaking LHM pump
I caved and bought a rebuild pump. unfortunately now I have idle problems (I'll create a new thread). At least the suspension is working like a charm now
