Power back on here at 3.15, I can stow the rations and pack the Tilley lamp away.
Had to resort to listening to my old battery powered 1960s Sanyo radio that I got going the other week. Brings back memories having to slightly retune it every now and then as it drifts off frequency :)
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

There was a window of opportunity today from 11 ish to 3pm ish. Currently we are missing the Snow to the north in Scotland, and the severest winds all parts South of Yorks/Lancs.

Craster earlier this afternoon.

17.10 Hertford we are into the tail end of the storm now, winds under 30 I'd say, fly jib swapped for cruiser and mainsail unreefed. Might be able to get to port now :-D

18.55 Hertford, down to a stiff breeze now, we survived intact as far as we can tell. Made it to harbour and moored up, all canvas stowed, hatches buttoned down and off to the pub!!

Thanks everyone for adding your gems to this spur of the moment thread!! :-D

Getting a second helping here this morning, wind's back up and it's pouring heavy rain and to top it off my gas central heating had a hissy fit and we had a power outage for about half an hour. :(

If the BBQ is still working Marc sling a few steaks on medium rare and then you just need to fire them up in the air and we can all have a bit!! :-D
Well shortly after rescuing the Barbie, we were hit with the full force of the storm and lost power Friday 10 minutes after my last post!

Only just had the juice restored, so no heating, hot water, or anything else since Friday. Went out to day to try and pick up some camping stoves, but as expected you can get Christmas Lights and a bloody Easter Egg, but not a camping stove in sight.

My mate brought his up yesterday, so managed some coffee and noodles, then it was off to bed before freezing.

Total devastation on the roads today, trees off everywhere and still several hundred thousand without electricity. They're talking about Nuclear Fusion, yet here we are in the 21st Century and still have these power outages......

Without wishing to sound like a doom mongering conspiracy theorist, the overall plan to dramatically reduce reliance on fossil fuels and try and move towards 'all electric' doesn't look good to me. We only had a 4 hour power cut yesterday so weren't too badly affected - the gas hobs still worked, I could dig out one of my gennies and run that if I felt the need, between my car and my truck I had over 1000 miles of range in their tanks so could stay usefully mobile for many weeks. How does that stack up when our homes are heated electrically, gas ovens are in a minority, and BEVs are in the majority. It's not just an issue during a power cut, it's also an issue after a power cut when everyone wants to load up their electricity useage to heat their homes, charge their cars, and cook their food. A bright new world* ?

Exactly. Unfortunately we're not on the gas grid here - so oil and electric - but of course the oil heating system needs electricity to work.

I've now ordered 2 butane single burners from Amazon - not bad at £21 a pop each with 4 cannisters of butane. I like the fact that you just plug these cartridges in, turn the dial and they self-light with a piezo. They pack away in a carry case and are really light.

Corrected for you. My Mum has one of these, and she orders her cannisters in packs of 28 on-line for a decent price. If you want I can find out where she gets them from?
