Dear friends.
I need the values for rocker clearance for my engine. The Haynes book for my car lists the values only for the engines 150A and 150C. My engine is called 150Y (nordic version?).
The car is a Citroen BX14RE, engine 150Y which is also called XY6B.
The previous car owner said he set the clearances, but the engine is still making a ticking noise. He followed the values given in Haynes book.
Could anyone tell me where to find the values, or possibly know the values and can tell me them.
The same engine is found in the following cars, so if anyone that owns Haynes book for these models could take a photo of clearance values and post it here:
Peugeot 104S/ZS 1,3 engine XY6B (1360/53)
Talbot Samba GLS/Cabriolet 1,4 engine 5K2 (XY6B) (1360/53)
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

That's not helping me - what is the vehicle year and the VIN please.

Re: Rocker clearance Citroen BX14RE, engine 150Y/XY6B
Hi, and welcome to FCF.
Have drawn something of a bit of a blank on this one.
150A, 150C and 150Y were all 1360cc engines fitted to BX (and other cars).
The earliest Citroen Mechanics Booklet we have in our library is
1985 Private Cars 050850 - covering A LNA Visa Axel GSA BX CX
which only lists engines as 150A and 150C, and their clearances.
Wikipedia simply lists an XY6B as a 1361cc petrol engine, "suitcase", 1972-88.
The 150Y / XY6B - for Sweden & Switzerland - is listed here:
https://citroen.tramontana.co.hu/en/eng ... variations.
Unless lucky here, you could also ask the question about its clearances on bxclub.co.uk .

The rockers are adjusted cold, 0.10mm (0.00394 inch) inlet and 0.25mm (0.00984 inch) exhaust. If there is still a ticking noise after adjustment you have a problem.
Those engines suffered with excessive wear of the camshaft lobes and rocker arms due to poor lubrication.

Re: Rocker clearance Citroen BX14RE, engine 150Y/XY6B
I went to my trusty old Autodata book. In the Citroen section its confusing so I went to Peugeot and it clearly shows 150 (XY6B) in a 104S & 104ZS 1979-83. I had both models during my time at Peugeot dealers in the 70`s.white exec wrote: 01 Feb 2022, 13:34 Hi, and welcome to FCF.

Re: Rocker clearance Citroen BX14RE, engine 150Y/XY6B
Oh thank you all for your kind and quick replies.
VIN: XBXD0027XD3188 (I will double check on the vehicle later)
Year: 1987
Yes the car is sold in Sweden, so the engine is indeed 150Y. The engine code is clearly punched on a metal label on the engine.
* Do you think it is worth checking in the Peugeot forum as well for the clearance information?
* Oldpug: thank you for the clearance information. How did you know the clearances, are they documented somewhere? or some standard?
* The previous owner told me it suffered of oil leak (which is fixed now), so that may have caused the wear. So if I'm going to, where to buy camshaft lobes and rocker arms for such an old car? it was hard to find when I searched.
Thank you

I`ve lost count how many of those engines I`ve taken apart, so I should have remembered the clearances. Luckily I still have an old Autodata Manual . If you can find one in Sweden ?Oucham wrote: 01 Feb 2022, 16:02 Oh thank you all for your kind and quick replies.

As for replacing the rocker arms and the camshaft. Its engine out, lots of work and expense. As long as the oil is good the engine will tick tick for ever.
If you do decide to do the job try www.peugeotparts.co.uk or www.serie04.com I`ve dealt with both, good service. You may find it easier to quote Peugeot 104S or 104ZS XY6B. The rocker arms are the same for all those XY and XW "laid back" engines, its just the camshaft profiles that are different.

The early Swedish manual also only states the clearance for 150A & C:
Sadly i do not have the Service news/ Servicemeddelanden booklet anymore, where the info about the 150Y engine might have been.
It burned with the rest of my last BX when someone set it a light

Thank you for the book tips and for the links. I easily found the rockers there
* So what you say is that it is ok to run the engine as normal, even if it is ticking? as long as I have correct level of oil and periodically change it, of course
* regarding the laid back engine: do you have tips how to adjust the clearances in that tilted situation? the top is not easy to access. Is it possible to do the job like that, or do I need to move the engine in some direction?
* Regarding change of rocker arms: the previous owner suggested sliding the axel that holds the rocker arms, to one side and change two rockers, and then slide it to the other side to change the other two rockers. Do you think it is possible?
Thank you!

Re: Rocker clearance Citroen BX14RE, engine 150Y/XY6B
Its impossible to remove the timing cover and replace ALL EIGHT rockers AND the camshaft INSITU. All that has happened is the cam lobe has worn a lump out of the rocker. See my " "amateur art work" Unless its an embarrassing clattering engine, leave it alone.

Ok, I see. Then I will probably leave it until I have a proper space for mech.
Your illustration is very clear, I appreciate it.
* So do you have a tips for adjusting of rocker arms in this laied back engine? It is not as easy as if the engine was straight vertically.

Re: Rocker clearance Citroen BX14RE, engine 150Y/XY6B
No tips, it’s just a very awkward job. After removing the rocker cover you will get oil all over the exhaust manifold, struggle for ages checking the clearances, and probably achieve nothing.

Re: Rocker clearance Citroen BX14RE, engine 150Y/XY6B
Haha.. Ok that does not sound to be a pleasant task.
I do not understand why they make such a tilted engine. For me it sounds stupid.
But then I can empty some of the engine oil before opening the rocker cover, to minimize dripping oil.

Re: Rocker clearance Citroen BX14RE, engine 150Y/XY6B
Oldpug: can you provid me with valve timing values for the XY6B (150Y) engine please. I hope these stand in the Autodata book.
Engines 150A and 150C differ in valve timing values. So I guess engine 150Y is also different.
Thank you
